Rony Shimony is a New York cardiologist who treated Jeffrey Epstein. The documents read for this page, released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, run from September 2010 to May 2019, and he is in them in his own voice: accepting invitations, offering contacts, arranging access to colleagues, and, once, asking his patient what to do with his money.
A doctor who treats a patient and answers that patient’s office when it writes to him has done nothing wrong. Nothing on this page is a finding of wrongdoing, and appearing in the released files is not evidence of it. Many people in these documents did nothing wrong. What follows is what the documents record him doing, in the order they record it.
Two episodes in his record are set out elsewhere on this site and are not repeated here. The May 2019 exchange in which Epstein’s office asked him to recommend an electrocardiograph for the island is told, with its documents, at Eva Andersson-Dubin. A 2015 instruction sheet on another physician’s letterhead that sends Epstein back to him is told at Woodson Merrell.
No statement by Shimony about any of this was found in the material read for this page. Outside the files, three web searches have been run for published reporting naming him in connection with Epstein; the reporting they returned that was opened does not name him under any spelling, and no statement by him was found in it. That is the extent of the outside search made. It is not a survey, and it is not a claim that no such statement exists.
2010: a dinner, and the earliest thing in the file
The earliest dated document read for this page is a single line from Lesley Groff to Epstein, sent on 7 September 2010: “Rony Shimony will attend the party on the 18th.”5 Ten days later she reported to Epstein again, under a subject line spelling the surname differently, that he “did reply that he was coming awhile back..”8
The party was a Yom Kippur break-fast dinner at Epstein’s Manhattan house on 9 East 71st Street, and the office kept a working reply sheet for it. Its first page carries twenty-nine named entries against a column of answers, plus two entries whose names the producing party has covered; a second page carries a further list of people; a third carries the office’s own outgoing invitation wording together with an instruction from Epstein about whom to invite if a particular guest confirmed; and a fourth carries the tail of that invitation and then the office’s notes of what individual guests actually said. The entry against his name is a joint one, and the answer column against it reads “Yes- 1 Adult (Rony only)”.9
That column cannot be read as a list of acceptances, and the sheet is its own warning. Several of the people marked “Yes” on page 1 have answers recorded on page 4 that do not match. One is noted as saying the guest would be away, and another’s office is noted only as intending to ask him. No answer on that sheet is attributed to a named guest here other than Shimony’s. Among the people it carries entries for are Leon Black, Alan Dershowitz, Mortimer Zuckerman, John Brockman, Jes Staley, Marvin Minsky, Reid Weingarten, David Mitchell, Peggy Siegal, Eva and Glen Dubin, Jean-Luc Brunel, Ghislaine, and the physicians Woodson Merrell and Bernard Kruger.9
Shimony’s own answer does not depend on that column, because he wrote it twice himself. On the morning of the dinner he answered the office’s reminder: “Confirming / Thx / See you tonight! / r”.10 The following morning he wrote again: “Lesley / Thank you and Jeffrey / It was a wonderful evening / rony”.2 The first is an acceptance and the second records that the evening happened. Both close with the same block, “Rony Shimony MD / Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular institute”, and nothing in either is clinical.
What he calls himself
He signs almost everything, and the block changes. Ten sheets rendered at 400 dpi for this page carry it, and across them it names three different institutional bases in nine years.
- September 2010: his name and degree over one institution, the “Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular institute”. No title, and no address.102
- June and July 2015: “R. Shimony M.D. FACC”, with a directorship of the Mount Sinai Heart and Vascular Center, Midtown, an associate professorship of medicine in cardiology, and a business address at 485 Madison Avenue, 17th floor.36
- August 2016: “Director, clinical cardiology” at Mount Sinai West, with the associate professorship now given at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and a business address at Mount Sinai Heart, 425 West 59th Street, 9th floor.4
- December 2017: “Rony Shimony, MD FACC”, and “Director, Clinical Cardiology” at Mount Sinai West, with a line for The Mount Sinai Hospital added above the Icahn line and the business address given as “425 W. 59th St.”.11
- May 2019: “Director, clinical Cardiology / Mount Sinai west”, with the associate professorship of medicine and the Icahn School now on separate lines, and a business address at Mount Sinai Heart, 1000 10th Avenue, Cardiovascular Ambulatory Center.1
Where the block is quoted above, the quotation is contiguous on the sheet cited beside it, and the capitalisation is the sheet’s own. Each block is followed on the sheet by contact lines, and no value from any of them is reproduced here.
The last of these is the description used on another page of this site, and it is his own. It was checked here against the sheet rather than taken from that page: it is the signature block on the message he sent on 24 May 2019.1 Outside the release, his current institutional biography gives different and later titles, so the block should be read as what he called himself at the time of each message and not as a standing description.12
2012: a charge, and a reminder to sign for it
On 27 September 2012 a card in Epstein’s name was charged $1,995.00 by a merchant printed on the receipt as “MT SINAI ASSOCIATES SHIMONY GROUP”, at 485 Madison Avenue, the same street address his own signature block would carry three years later. The merchant copy of the receipt was forwarded into Epstein’s office on 2 October 2012 under a one-word subject, “invoice”.13 Epstein’s own schedule for that morning carried a reminder: “need JE to sign for Shimony invoice/talk to Mary”.14
No contact value, card value or transaction identifier is reproduced on this page.
2015: two ambulances
In the last week of June 2015 Epstein’s office set out to buy ambulances. On 29 June Karyna Shuliak wrote to Eva Andersson-Dubin: “Jeffrey wants to purchase 2 fully equipped ambulance machines: 1 for the i=land, and 1 for the ranch. May be you know somebody who could help us with t=e process, especially regarding all the equipment? we would really apprecia=e any help!” The = characters are the sheet’s own export damage. Andersson-Dubin replied the same day: “I will look into this when I am back in NY… / I also cc Rony on this… so we can brainstorm together…”3
Shimony answered the same day, and his answer is three lines and an initial: “Sure / Head EMS colleagues friends & ER guys can set us up / Let Eva & I know when ready / r”.3 On 3 July he named a specific person: “Eva & Karyna / When you are ready, a friend and colleague Morris Steinberg who’s involved in the ambulance service and ran the NY M=nroe department for 30+ years is willing and very capable to help set up th= two ambulances He’s connections will get the best pricing as well / Happy fourth of July / r”.6 Shuliak asked on 6 July how she could reach Steinberg. Two replies of his that evening are quoted on a later sheet of the thread: “I’ll call you tomorrow & set up”, and then “Sure thing / Safe travels best to JE”.15
What the sheets establish is the offer, the name, and the undertaking to make the call. Nothing read for this page records whether the call was made, whether Steinberg was reached, or whether either ambulance was bought.
This matters to a question another page on this site leaves open and does not answer. Andersson-Dubin’s page records her naming “Rony” in April 2017 when Epstein’s office asked her for help equipping an emergency room on the island, and it says in terms that nothing read there establishes who introduced the two men. The 2015 ambulance thread is twenty-two months earlier and is the same shape, an equipment request routed through her to him, and the 2010 dinner is earlier still. None of that says who introduced whom, and this page does not assert that anyone did.
2016 and 2017: access
The traffic through those years is mostly scheduling, and most of it is between other people. Two sheets carry him acting.
On 26 August 2016 Epstein’s assistant wrote to him: “Good morning Dr. Shimony. Jeffrey will be in NY in Sept. and is asking if you could come see him at his home for breakfast on Thurs. Sept. 8th…however early you need would be just fine! Jeffrey’s home address is 9 East 71st Street.” He accepted the same morning. His reply opens “Good morning ▮”, the bar being the producing party’s over the name he was greeting, and continues “September 8 / at 8:15 AM works”. In the same message he undertook something more: “I will arrange for the chief to meet with Jeffrey to review the CTA immediately after and call me when they are together / have a terrific weekend send my best / rs”. He restated it three days later as “Yes will arrange for him to meet with the chief post CTA for an immediate read / And A conference call with me at the same time / r”, and the office replied “Fantastic!” The next day his office asked to move the breakfast and Epstein’s office proposed alternatives; the sheets read for this page do not record where it settled.4
“CTA” is a cardiac imaging examination; what is on this page about it is that an appointment existed and that he undertook to put a department head in the room immediately afterwards and to join by telephone. Nothing further about any examination is reproduced here.
On 12 December 2017 an internal thread at his hospital reached him. Colleagues were deciding whether an appointment could be fitted in for Epstein the next day, and the chain had been forwarded the previous afternoon under a subject line to which the words “major donor” had been added. Shimony’s contribution to the thread is three words and an initial: “Thank you all / r”. Lesley Groff is among the recipients of that reply, so Epstein’s office was on the chain.11 The words “major donor” are a colleague’s, not his; this page does not attribute them to him, and nothing read here establishes what, if anything, Epstein gave the hospital.
2018: the advice runs the other way
On 20 September 2018, in a message the sheet stamps in the early afternoon UTC, he wrote to Epstein:
JE
Your advise Buy? Sit? Banks google Apple
Almost all in cash now..
rony
Rony Shimony to Jeffrey Epstein, 20 September 2018, read at the image at 400 dpi.7
The sender label on that block names him, and it was read at the image rather than taken from the extraction. Nothing read for this page records a reply. The sheet stores that one message three times over, under consecutive block numbers, which is an artefact of the extraction. A phrase search on a clause of it returns four documents in all: this sheet and three further device extracts, each carrying a copy of the same message.
It is the only message read here in which the direction of expertise reverses: everywhere else he is the doctor being consulted, and here he is the client. Whether Epstein answered, and whether any money moved either way as a result, is not established by anything read for this page.
2019
The latest dated document read for this page is his reply of 24 May 2019 to Epstein’s office about an electrocardiograph for the island, six weeks before Epstein’s arrest. That exchange, and the sheets behind it, are set out at Eva Andersson-Dubin and are not retold here. The date is a date and not a meaning: nothing read for this page connects the request to anything that followed.1
How far the record reaches
The figures below are a floor, not a population, and they are counts of documents that contain a string, not of documents about him.
Three name forms were measured as sets against the corpus index. “Rony Shimony” returns 217 documents, “Dr. Shimony” 555 and “R. Shimony” 19; their union is 725. The first two are very nearly disjoint, sharing only 52 documents, so either on its own reaches well under half the union. The bare surname “Shimony” returns 875 and contains all 725; for each of the 150 documents it adds, a window around every occurrence of the surname was read at the text layer. They are mostly appointment traffic that does not spell the forename, together with one thread of August 2016 in which the surname became a subject line and the body is about apartments and other people entirely.
Three further classes lie outside the bare surname and were read individually rather than counted.
Spellings a person chose. Five forms are not scanner damage at all but how Epstein, his office and his correspondents actually typed the name: “Shimoni” (19 documents, 18 of them him and one a different doctor in Israel), “Shoimony” (4, all four copies of one message of 2 November 2016), “Shumony” (4), “Shemony” (1) and “Shimonv” (2). Together they reach 30 documents, 26 of them outside the bare surname. An edit-distance generator seeded on the correct spelling cannot produce this class, because no scanner made it; it was found by reading. One of these is “Rony Shimoni did reply that he was coming awhile back..”, which is the second document in his file.
The possessive run together. “Shimonys” reaches 15 documents, 7 of them outside the bare surname. An apostrophe splits into its own token and so does not escape the surname; a possessive written without one does.
The surname with its last letter clipped. “Shimon” reaches 329 documents, and 306 of those lie outside everything above. ⚠ Almost none of them is him: “Shimon” is a common forename, and the 306 are overwhelmingly other people, Shimon Peres most of all: 165 of the 306 carry the phrase “Shimon Peres” and 202 carry “Peres” at all. Each was screened for “Rony” or “Dr.” standing immediately before the clipped token, which finds eleven; reading the rest found three more under a mailbox label, so 14 are his: calendar entries, call lists and a mailbox label, where a bar or a line end has taken the final letter. One of those fourteen already falls inside the spellings above, so thirteen of them are new. The remaining 293 were not counted toward anything on this page.
The bare forename “Rony” returns 480, of which 200 lie outside the surname; those 200 were read and they are mixed: Epstein’s shorthand for him, several unrelated people of the same forename, and extraction noise.
So the floor, as set operations: the bare surname (875), the possessive (7 that the surname does not already hold), the five source-side spellings (26 more) and the thirteen clipped entries that fall outside all of those (13 more) give 921 documents, of which 196 lie outside the three forms this page began with.
None of the sheets carrying the surname is a container row: the largest is 3,007 characters, and none exceeds 100,000.

Rony Shimony to Lesley Groff, 24 May 2019, subject “Re: Jeffrey Epstein-EKG Machine”, two sheets. Both read at the image at 400 dpi. His signature block stands on both sheets; the contact lines beneath it are covered by a bar and nothing from them is reproduced here. The produced header on p.1 is unzoned and the quoted preambles on the same sheet differ from it by four hours, so no clock time is taken from the produced header; its clock time stands in the afternoon, so that conversion leaves the date on 24 May 2019 either way. The sheet printed as p.2 carries its own Bates stamp, one higher than the first. https://epstein-data.com/EFTA02287863 pp.1-2 ↩ ↩2 ↩3 ↩4 ↩5 ↩6 ↩7

Thread “Re: Ambulance for JE”, 29 June 2015. Read at the image at 400 dpi. The produced sender field of Shimony’s message is covered by a bar; the message is attributed to him here from the signature block it carries, not from that field. The two quoted preambles on this sheet cannot be on one clock: a reply is timed earlier in the day than the message it quotes, so no clock time or interval is taken from it. https://epstein-data.com/EFTA02299370 p.1 ↩ ↩2 ↩3 ↩4

Thread “Re: Jeffrey Epstein-Breakfast Thursday Sept 8th?—yes 8:15am”, 26–30 August 2016, five sheets, of which the later ones carry the earlier messages. Pages 2, 3, 4 and 5 read at the image at 400 dpi; p.1 at the text layer. ⚠ On p.3 the corpus text layer runs his greeting straight into the next line, so that it reads “Good morning September 8”. At 400 dpi there is a producer’s bar between them, over the name he was greeting. The text layer shows no sign of it. The bar is drawn here from the image and from nothing else, and no name is supplied for it. The two spans quoted here from his message of 26 August are not contiguous on the sheet: a further line of that message stands between them and is not reproduced. The quoted preambles time the invitation at 7:45 a.m. and his acceptance at 7:53 a.m. on 26 August 2016, and they are the basis for the time of day given in the body. Shimony’s message of 29 August stands in the preamble on p.2 above his signature block; his message of 26 August and the assistant’s invitation of the same morning stand on pp.4-5. The rescheduling exchange of 30 August is on p.1. https://epstein-data.com/EFTA02044311 pp.1-5 ↩ ↩2 ↩3

Lesley Groff to Jeffrey Epstein, 7 September 2010, subject “Rony Shimony”, one sentence. Read at the image at 400 dpi. The sheet’s own produced header is unzoned and is the only stamp on the sheet, which carries no quoted header, so no clock time is taken from it here. The date does not turn on that: the header’s clock time stands late in the evening, so converting it four hours back to the New York clock leaves it on 7 September 2010, and the date is the same whether the header is read as a New York clock or as a UTC one. https://epstein-data.com/EFTA02422782 p.1 ↩ ↩2

Same thread, 3–6 July 2015, three sheets. Pages 1, 2 and 3 read at the image at 400 dpi. Shimony’s message of 3 July is quoted from the preamble on p.1; the 29 June message is quoted again on p.2. The forms
M=nroe,th=andapprecia=eare printed on the sheet and are not repaired here. This sheet’s own produced header is unzoned and reads 6 July 2015 11:11 p.m.; the same message of his stands as a quoted preamble at 15 timed 7:11 p.m. on 6 July, an exact four-hour difference. The produced headers on these sheets therefore run four hours ahead of the New York clock, which is why no clock time is taken from any of them and every time of day given in the body comes from a header quoted inside a message body. Every dated stamp on the three sheets of this document falls on 29 June, 3 July or 6 July; none falls on 7 July. https://epstein-data.com/EFTA02300174 pp.1-2 ↩ ↩2 ↩3 -

The sheet’s own produced header is unzoned and is the only stamp on it; no clock time is taken from it, and its clock time stands in the late afternoon, so the four-hour conversion leaves the date on 17 September 2010 either way. https://epstein-data.com/EFTA02420792 p.1 ↩ -
Working reply sheet headed “Dinner / September 18th”, five sheets, undated on its face; the covering text on p.3 gives the year by describing “a rare Yom Kippur to coincide with a Saturday” and by naming the venue, and the reminder quoted at 10 dates the dinner to Saturday 18 September 2010. Pages 1 to 5 read at the image at 400 dpi. The entry against his name is a joint one and its answer column reads “Yes- 1 Adult (Rony only)”. Two name entries on p.1 are covered by the producing party’s bars, which the corpus text layer does not show at all: at the text layer the list reads as though it were unbroken. The figure of twenty-nine is a count of named entries on p.1 and is not a count of invitations: p.2 carries further names. Page 1 carries thirty-one entries in all, two of them barred, and one name appears on it twice. Page 3 carries no guest’s answer; the answers are on p.4, below the tail of the invitation wording that begins on p.3. Page 5 carries nothing but its Bates stamp. https://epstein-data.com/EFTA00298379 pp.1-4 ↩ ↩2

That quoted header times his message at 08:26 on Saturday 18 September 2010, and it is the basis for the time of day given in the body; the sheet’s own produced header is unzoned and no clock time is taken from it. The quoted reminder of 17 September gives the dinner as “tomorrow evening, Saturday September 18th, at 7:00pm” at “9 East 71st Street (between 5th and Madison)”. https://epstein-data.com/EFTA02418959 p.1 ↩ ↩2 ↩3

Internal Mount Sinai scheduling thread, three sheets. Its subject line names the appointment and is not transcribed here. Shimony’s message is dated 12 December 2017 by a produced header that carries its own
+0000offset, so it is a zoned stamp. A conversion is needed for its clock time, which falls in the early afternoon in New York; it is not needed for the date, which is 12 December either way, and the date is all that is taken from it. Page 1 read at the image at 400 dpi. His reply reads “Thank you all / r” above his signature block. The earlier link in the chain, forwarded 11 December 2017, carries a subject line to which the words “major donor” have been added; its stamp is 4:59 p.m. in a header quoted inside the message body, and that stamp is the basis for the time of day the body gives for that forward. Same thread, continued, four sheets. Page 1 read at the image at 400 dpi.
