| What moved | $14,903,211.47 credited to Southern Trust Company, Inc.’s FirstBank Puerto Rico account between November 20 and December 12, 2019, from Darren K. Indyke PLLC’s IOLA trust account, from an account titled to the Butterfly Trust, and from seven further Epstein-linked entities whose wires were originated by HBRK Associates, Inc.12 |
| Then | $13,000,000 of that money was wired out again on December 23, 2019, to an account of Interactive Brokers LLC, instructed “FOR TRANSFER TO SOUTHERN TRUST COMPANY INC / PUT FUNDS IN INTEREST BEARING MONEY MARKET ACCOUNT”3 |

| A relationship manager’s daily report, and what it is not | A June 2017 Deutsche Bank “Daily Deposit Report” lists Jeffrey Epstein and more than a dozen of his companies and trusts together on one page, but the same report format, run for the same code in other months, also lists entirely unconnected clients of the same banker; it is a record of one relationship manager’s book of business, not a bank’s view of “the network”78 |
| Production | FirstBank Puerto Rico’s certified copies of Fedwire advices; Deutsche Bank internal correspondence and an automated back-office report947 |
Three documents were commissioned for this page as a bank’s own view of Jeffrey Epstein’s network of companies and trusts. Two of them show an institution doing something and recording it: a set of Fedwire advices tracing money moving between the entities’ own accounts, and a Deutsche Bank compliance exchange about a trust’s beneficiaries. The third, a relationship manager’s routine balance report, turns out on inspection to be broader than the network it was said to depict, and it is addressed below because misreading it would have put unconnected people’s names on this page.
A relationship manager’s book of business is not a map of the network
On June 29, 2017 an automated Deutsche Bank mailbox sent a “Daily Deposit Report” for relationship-manager code 82289, listing every account under that code with a large, zero or negative balance as of the previous day.7 Read as a list of Epstein’s own holdings, the report is informative: it shows, on one day, balances for Jeffrey Epstein himself ($2,340,007.40), Neptune, LLC ($155,275.32), Hyperion Air, LLC ($100,591.79), JEGE, Inc ($963,187.55), Plan D, LLC ($230,331.42), JEGE, LLC ($176,681.00), Darren K. Indyke PLLC ($311,017.80), HBRK Associates, Inc ($171,881.89), NES, LLC ($339,846.54), LSJE, LLC ($140,207.47), Gratitude America, Ltd (two accounts, $436,089.56 and $339,180.29), Zorro Management, LLC ($554,091.63), Prytanee, LLC ($598,482.14), The Haze Trust (two accounts, $7,726,429.44 and $21,035,275.90), Southern Trust Company, Inc. (two accounts, $10,906,247.09 and $18,016,517.80) and Southern Financial LLC ($11,471,508.98).7 The report does not define what its category codes (“N”, “D”, “M”) mean, and this page does not guess.
But the report’s own subject line reads “RM0082289 Daily Deposit Report,” and it is scoped to that relationship-manager code, not to Epstein.7 The same report lists a couple with no connection to Epstein shown anywhere in the documents cited on this page. A second copy of the same report, for the same code twenty-one months later, removes any doubt: alongside Epstein and most of the same set of his entities, that single page also lists an entirely unrelated family of trusts and GRATs, a set of horse-racing organizations, and a block of real-estate holding companies unconnected to Epstein by any document cited here, several of the holding companies each appearing twice under the code.8 This page does not name or itemize any of those unconnected clients further. The report is what its own heading says it is: a private banker’s book of business, seen through one day’s balances. That it also happens to gather most of Epstein’s Deutsche Bank entities onto a single page is a coincidence of how one person’s accounts were assigned inside the bank, not a record of the bank deciding anything about his network as such.
Money into Southern Trust Company’s FirstBank account, 2016–2019
FirstBank Puerto Rico’s certified copies of twenty-five Fedwire advices for the account of Southern Trust Company, Inc. show a fourteen-transfer pattern before the account’s activity changes sharply at the end of 2019.9 Except where noted, each of the following is a Fedwire credit sent by Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas, originated in the name of “Southern Trust Company, c/o HBRK Associates, Inc.,” to Southern Trust Company’s account at FirstBank Puerto Rico in San Juan:9
| Date | Amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Feb 11, 2016 | $300,000.00 | |
| Jul 14, 2016 | $500,000.00 | |
| Dec 16, 2016 | $200,000.00 | |
| Apr 4, 2017 | $400,000.00 | |
| Aug 21, 2017 | $600,000.00 | |
| Sep 28, 2017 | $417,475.00 | Reverse direction: a debit from Southern Trust Company’s FirstBank account back to its Deutsche Bank account, marked “INTERBANK OF TRANSFER” |
| Dec 8, 2017 | $300,000.00 | |
| Jan 10, 2018 | $200,000.00 | |
| Apr 19, 2018 | $150,000.00 | |
| Aug 21, 2018 | $400,000.00 | |
| Oct 31, 2018 | $400,000.00 | |
| Mar 7, 2019 | $700,000.00 | |
| May 3, 2019 | $91,098.69 | |
| May 16, 2019 | $397,882.59 | Originator given as “Prytanee, LLC,” not Southern Trust Company |
The thirteen credits in this pattern total $4,638,981.28; the one debit moved $417,475.00 the other way.9 Nothing in these advices states a purpose for any of the transfers, and this page does not supply one.
November–December 2019: seven entities and a trust, one account, three weeks
The pattern changes after Jeffrey Epstein’s death on August 10, 2019.10 On November 20, 2019 a Fedwire credit of $5,566,408.92 reached Southern Trust Company’s FirstBank account. Its originator is given as “Darren K. Indyke PLLC, IOLA Trust Account,” sent through TD Bank, N.A. in Wilmington, Delaware: a New York lawyer’s client-fund escrow account, in Indyke’s own firm’s name.1
Three weeks later, on December 12, 2019, eight further credits reached the same account in a single day, from eight different originating accounts:2
| Originator (as printed) | Amount |
|---|---|
| Richard Kahn, Erika A. Kellerhals TTEE, Butterfly Trust | $98,795.45 |
| HBRK Associates Inc, NES | $1,345,169.03 |
| HBRK Associates Inc, LSJE | $2,707,464.11 |
| HBRK Associates Inc, Neptune | $1,013,546.36 |
| HBRK Associates Inc, Plan D | $971,262.20 |
| HBRK Associates Inc, Hyperion | $826,301.61 |
| HBRK Associates Inc, Zorro | $1,451,474.78 |
| HBRK Associates Inc, JEGE | $922,789.01 |
The eight December 12 credits total $9,336,802.55; together with the November 20 transfer, $14,903,211.47 moved into Southern Trust Company’s FirstBank account in three weeks.21 The first of the eight was sent by National Financial Services LLC (a brokerage clearing firm) through JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., from an account titled “Richard Kahn, Erika A. Kellerhals TTEE, Butterfly Trust”2, the same Butterfly Trust that held checking and money market accounts at Deutsche Bank from January 2014.11 The other seven were sent through TD Bank, N.A., each originated in the name of HBRK Associates, Inc. with a short entity name added as a second line: NES, LLC; LSJE, LLC; Neptune, LLC; Plan D, LLC; Hyperion Air, LLC; Zorro Management, LLC; and JEGE.2 The documents cited here do not state why these particular entities’ accounts were consolidated into Southern Trust Company’s account on this date, or who decided it; they record only that HBRK Associates, Inc. (Richard Kahn’s firm) originated seven of the eight transfers and that the eighth drew on an account titled to Kahn and to Erika Kellerhals as trustee of the Butterfly Trust. This wiki states elsewhere that both Indyke and Kahn had already been appointed co-executors of Epstein’s estate by September 6, 2019, before any of the transfers described in this section.12 That appointment is not independently verified against a primary document cited on this page.
December 23, 2019, and after
Eleven days after the last of those credits, on December 23, 2019, Southern Trust Company’s FirstBank account sent a Fedwire payment of $13,000,000.00 to an account of Interactive Brokers LLC in Greenwich, Connecticut, routed through Citibank, N.A. Both the “Originator to Beneficiary” and “Bank-to-Bank Information” fields carry the same instruction: “FOR TRANSFER TO SOUTHERN TRUST COMPANY INC / PUT FUNDS IN INTEREST BEARING MONEY MARKET ACCOUNT.”3 The instruction names Southern Trust Company as the ultimate holder of the funds at Interactive Brokers, not a third party. Three weeks later, on January 13, 2020, a further $348,667.02 was credited to the FirstBank account, sent from Southern Trust Company’s own account at Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, a transfer between the company’s own accounts at two Puerto Rico banks, the last entry in the set of documents cited here.13
The Butterfly Trust’s beneficiaries, December 2016
Three years before that consolidation, Deutsche Bank’s own compliance function had already opened a review of the Butterfly Trust. On December 19, 2016 Cynthia Rodriguez, an assistant vice president in the trust company’s asset and wealth management unit, wrote to Richard Kahn: “Our compliance group is reviewing the recent update that was made to the beneficiaries of the Butterfly Trust, and they have a few questions regarding the trust,” and asked three things: what the trust’s purpose was, “as it is not cleared within the original trust agreement”; where, in the supporting documents provided, the trust agreement supported the change of beneficiaries; and why the beneficiaries were changing.4
On this record, Kahn did not answer in writing. After a follow-up from Rodriguez on December 30 (“Just following up on the below”), Kahn replied that he had “provided this information” to Stewart Oldfield, a director in the bank’s wealth management group, and proposed a call.5 Oldfield answered the same morning that he would “be driving at 11” and could call “around noon”; Kahn’s final message in the produced thread reads only “okspeak later or we can also speak tuesday whatever is better for you.”6 The documents cited here do not record what was said on that call, or any later written answer to compliance’s three questions.
What the record does not show
These documents record that money moved and when, and that a compliance question was asked and answered by telephone rather than in writing. They do not establish why the December 2019 transfers were made, who inside Southern Trust Company, HBRK Associates or the Butterfly Trust decided to route seven entities’ funds and a trust distribution into one account within a three-week span, what became of the $13,000,000 placed with Interactive Brokers after December 23, 2019, or what Richard Kahn told Stewart Oldfield about the Butterfly Trust’s beneficiaries on the telephone call the December 2016 emails arrange. This page does not supply those answers, and no document cited here does either.
