What this page is, and what it is not

This is a correspondence file, and the correspondent is real. Unlike most names in this release, Jack Lang wrote. Across the documents read for this page there are 117 documents whose outermost From: header is his side of the exchange, carrying 79 distinct message timestamps, and on 48 of those the voice is his own first person, signed Jack, Jack Lang or jack Lang.12 But the project’s sender column is not a measure of his authorship, and it is wrong in both directions. It records Jack Lang on 110 documents and a damaged spelling of his name on 6 more. It misses 3 documents whose outermost header is his side, and it attributes 2 to him whose outermost header is Epstein’s office. More importantly, 28 of the 79 message timestamps are his assistant writing about him in the third person from his account, and the column cannot tell the two apart.2 A politician answering a letter has answered a letter. Nothing on this page asserts that Lang knew of, participated in or concealed any offence. The documents record correspondence, meetings, meals, museum business, one aircraft journey and one request for a car. Material was withheld. Parts of this file concern private individuals, family members, a minor’s schooling and a bereavement. None of it is reproduced, described or located here, and the page says so rather than passing over it in silence.3 There is one document in this population that was not opened. It is a Block S stop. It is not named, not described, and nothing is taken from it.3

Jack Lang is one of the most senior living figures in French public life: the Culture Minister who created the Fête de la Musique, later Education Minister, and since 2013 the president of the Institut du monde arabe. He is also, in this release, a genuine correspondent of Jeffrey Epstein over more than six years. That distinction matters, because most names in these files are names in other people’s papers. Lang wrote back.

What follows is what the documents show, and no more. They show a friendship conducted in two registers: a stream of short notes about Paris meetings, coffees and museum openings, and, running underneath it, a series of favours that moved in one direction. Epstein offered money, an aircraft, a car and introductions. Lang offered theatre tickets, museum access, his forward travel schedule, and introductions of his own.

The identification, and why it had to be made

Two other people share this name in the material. A different bearer of the surname is the larger presence in the project’s sender field; this page does not name that person, does not describe that person, and takes nothing from that person’s messages. Separately, and as a fact from outside this release, a Jack Lang who lived from 1876 to 1975 was Premier of New South Wales, and a search on the bare surname cannot tell the two apart.

Both hazards were tested. Every document in the scoped population was screened for Australian political vocabulary; thirteen candidates came back and all thirteen were read and all thirteen were false positives of the screen. Among them was a third bearer entirely, a news reporter whose byline on the sheet carries the form J. Lang. No document in this population concerns the Australian Premier.13

The positive identification is made three ways at the sheets. A news clipping in the release names him as former French Culture Minister Jack Lang, reporting a press conference he gave in Taiwan.4 His office invited Epstein to Jack Lang's office at the World arab institute, which is the Institut du monde arabe.5 And Epstein himself, forwarding one of Lang’s documents to a Harvard correspondent, described its author as jack lang formr cdication minister fiance.6 The man in this file is the French politician.

2012: a book, an invitation, and a hundred thousand dollars

The file opens on 12 November 2012 with Lang accepting something. Writing in his own name to Epstein’s address, he begins by apologising for his English, then:

I gladly accept your proposal and thank you very much for the same.

He asks what is expected of him, says he could start at once, and asks two questions:

What will be the size of this small book?

Will it be published?

What the proposal was, this page does not know. No earlier message in the release sets it out, and nothing later in the file returns to the book. The absence is recorded rather than filled.14

Three weeks later Lang wrote again, thanking Epstein for yesterday and your generous and delicate invitation, which places a meeting on 2 December 2012. The same message sets out his week:

Tomorrow I am not in Paris. With the French President i am going to Lens to inaugurate the Louvre of Lens.

Wednesday i have to assist to a representation of West Side Story.

I have two tickets .

Would you like to come with me for the first part?

Lang offered Epstein one of his two tickets, and Epstein went. His assistant arranged the meeting point, Epstein answered II be there, and the next day he wrote to thank him for " tonight".157

On 10 December 2012, Epstein wrote to Lang about money. The whole message is one sentence:

as per our discussion re the three prince /princesses and their cultural curriculum, we will be sending the balance of the 100k this week

The document is addressed to Jack Lang. It says that a sum of one hundred thousand had been agreed, that part of it had already moved, and that the balance was going that week. It does not say who the payer was beyond Epstein’s we, who received it, or what entity held it. No payment instrument, account, transfer record or receipt for this sum appears anywhere in the material read for this page, and no reply to the message appears either.1013

What would account for a convicted sex offender financing a cultural curriculum for three children at a French former minister’s request? The documents do not answer it. They establish only that the money was discussed, that a balance was owed, and that Epstein said it was coming.

2013: the Petit Prince document, and what Epstein did with it

On the morning of 28 January 2013, Fabrice Parsy sent Epstein an attachment. The subject line is Petit Prince and the attachment is named petitprince.docx. The covering note is four lines:

Dear Jeffrey,

Please find attached the document from Jack Lang.

Thank you very much for all your attention.

Regards from France.

Sixty-eight minutes later Epstein replied to Lang with a numbered list of questions. Read at the page image, the message is:

thanks i will review this week and revert to you. 1. Should the child be introduced to religion. new sexuialitys. , tested? how often, standardized tests. sample projects. etc.. can we set up a call for later this week?

The spelling sexuialitys is the sheet’s own and no letter is supplied. The word was read at the page image, where the paper and the released text layer agree on it.16

This page states what that message is and declines to state what it means. It is Epstein’s commentary on a document about a child’s education that had been sent to him on Lang’s behalf. It names no child. No reply to it over Lang’s own signature appears in the release: the only message from his side between 28 January and 20 February 2013 is a reply of 13 February whose body is empty.13

What Epstein did next is documented, and it is the part of this episode that is not ambiguous. At 5:04 that same afternoon he forwarded the attachment to Henry Rosovsky of Harvard:

i will review„ if you can take a look at this attachment, it is from jack lang formr cdication minister fiance.

Five days later a second Harvard academic reported back. Howard Earl Gardner, writing to Epstein on 2 February 2013 under the subject petit prince:

I read over the document a couple of times and, to b= frank, I dont know what sense to make of it. Even if Jack Lang is not beh=nd it, the document is Very French.

Epstein answered the same morning: It is an outline only. I appreciate your confusion.617

So the sequence is this. Lang’s office sent Epstein a document. Epstein queried it back to Lang, circulated it to two Harvard figures for assessment within hours, and relayed their confusion. A French politician’s education paper was being run through Epstein as a broker of academic opinion.

The new job, and Morocco

In May 2013 Epstein asked twice about Lang’s new position. On 7 May: how is the new job? On 12 May: are you having fun yet , with your new job? Lang answered on 24 May:

It is a fascinating job, I would like to speak to you in person when you come to Paris next

The job is the presidency of the Institut du monde arabe, which Lang took up in 2013 and which supplies the setting for much of what follows.18

On 2 June 2013 Epstein wrote: I would love to go to morroco when you are next visitng. Lang replied the next day, With pleasure, when you are in Paris we will talk about that. That exchange opens a thread that runs for four years and ends with Lang on Epstein’s aircraft.19

In June 2013 Lang proposed a meeting at the Institut and Epstein came. Lang asked ok at the arabian institut?, and when Epstein said he knew the address Lang sent it anyway. Epstein wrote the next day: thank you for taking the time to meet yesterday. The thank-you names no venue, and the Institut is where the messages either side of it had fixed.20

On 16 June 2013 Lang’s office offered Epstein a way into the Fête de la Musique. Under the subject Re: FETE DE LA MUSIQUE NYC, Parsy wrote:

Jack Lang asked me to send you this documentation concerning Make Music New York.

He can introduce yourself if you are interested to participate.

The Fête de la Musique is Lang’s own creation as Culture Minister. The offer was an introduction to its New York offshoot.21

On 2 September 2013 Lang set out his autumn travel. He would be going back to Morocco in October and November

to prepare an important event concerning the creativity in Marocco which take place in fall 2014 in Paris, at IMA.

and would also travel in Arab countries and to Singapore. Then:

When the list will be ready i will send it to you.

Lang was undertaking to send Epstein his forward movements. Four years later he did exactly that.22

2014 and 2015: the offer that sat in the thread, and a property at five point four million

On 10 February 2014 Jack Lang headed a list. An itinerary in the release sets out Epstein’s Paris week and opens the Monday with a line beginning PARIS To See: Jack Lang, continuing through a sequence of names that includes Jagland and Terje. The rest of that list is not reproduced here, because several of its entries are bare forenames of private individuals.23

On 2 March 2014 Epstein made an offer. The message does not survive on its own in the material read for this page; it survives because Lang quoted it back eighteen months later. It reads:

I am happy to pick up all expenses for a new york or caribean, trip

Lang’s reply in that thread is dated 30 September 2015. It reads, in full:

Dear Jeffrey,

I thank you again for your nice gesture, it was more than thoughtful.

We are very pleased to meet up with you on October 25 in Marrakesh.

Kindly,

Jack & Monique

Both dates were read at the page image. The gap between the quoted message and the reply is eighteen months, and the reply does not say what the nice gesture was. It is not stated here that Lang accepted the offer of a paid trip, because the document does not establish it, and nothing in the material read for this page places Lang in the Caribbean or at any Epstein property.2413

Between 13 February 2014 and 30 March 2015 there is no message from Lang’s side at all. That is a thirteen and a half month gap in a correspondence that is otherwise near continuous, and it is recorded as a gap rather than smoothed over.2

What broke the silence was a property sale. On 30 March 2015 a message came from Lang’s account under the subject from Monique Lang, signed Monique Lang:

A friend spoke to us about his property of Marrakesh that he wishes to sell. He confided the sale to an agency but he prefers that we speak about it directly.

Epstein asked the price. The answer, the next morning:

the price is 5 400 000 curos, off shore

and, separately, The owner has a bursar since decades. The sheet prints curos; no correction is supplied here. Nothing in the material read for this page shows that Epstein bought the property, and no contract, deposit or closing record for it was found.1113

Lang’s name used as a door

Two weeks after the property message, a third party pitched Epstein a Moroccan venture and named Lang as the way in. Writing on 13 April 2015 under the subject Education & Health in Morroco, Mark Lloyd set out a plan to build a private clinic and two schools in Morocco with a named Moroccan businessman, then proposed three joint ventures, and added:

I can easily handle the initial dialogue with Harrow, but thought your friend M. Jaques Lang might be able to help with the Ecole Polytechique.

The spelling is the sheet’s own. Nothing read for this page shows that Epstein passed the request on, that Lang was asked, or that any of it happened. What the document establishes is narrower and still worth stating: by 2015 Lang’s friendship with Epstein was a known asset that third parties proposed to spend.25

In October 2015 Epstein was invited to a private Paris screening. The invitation is to a screening at a Paris theatre generously made available by Bernard-Henri LEVY and La Regle du Jeu, and Epstein’s own office handled the reply: Am 1 to RSVP yes for your attendance on Nov 23rd in Paris or merely put in calendar? The occasion of the screening concerns a bereavement in a private family and is not reproduced, described or located here.263

6 April 2017: the flight to Marrakech

This is the best documented episode in the file, and it is documented from both sides.

4 April 2017. Parsy wrote to Epstein for Lang: Jack Lang asks if the flight is already registered in the airport of Marrakech. Have you got some precisions of the place it will land in the airport of Marrakech? Epstein answered pilots copied on email.8

The same afternoon Epstein’s chief pilot answered Lang’s office directly. Captain Larry Visoski, writing to Epstein and copying Jack LANG, began Fabrice,. Message received and said he would have landing details for Mr Epstein's number N212JE. Two hours later he sent them:

Marrakech arrival information Tail Number N212JE / Gulfstream IV aircraft. Stars aviation is located in Main Terminal area,. With access to VIP lounge for passengers.

STARS Aviation will be handling our flight to Marrakech.

The handler’s contact details on that sheet are covered by the producer’s marks and nothing under them is read, supplied or described here.8

5 April. Parsy relayed a question about the departure time; Epstein said eleven fifteen was fine and that the plane will no= leave without us, quoted as the sheet prints it with no letter supplied. Lang then wrote himself, in a message signed simply Jack:

I propose 11H to be sure not to be late, because of the =raffic on the road,

The sheet carries a transfer-encoding fault in the word for traffic. It is quoted as the sheet prints it and no letter is supplied.27

6 April. Parsy: Jack Lang is on the road for le Bourget. He didn't see your email. Epstein, meanwhile, was asking his pilot about terminals: do we arrive at reg terminal. or did you organize VIP terminal. if there is one, and then jack says he normally lands at royal terminal? is there such a thing? Visoski replied I'll check with handler.28

7 April, 10:50 in the morning. Lang wrote to Epstein, and this is the message the page exists to put in front of a reader. Read at the page image, in full:

Dear Jeffrey,

It was a fabulous day yesterday, a splendid time with you. Your friendship, the amazing plane, and your extraordinary generosity really touched us. Did you like the Majorelle’s visit?

Sincerely,

Jack Lang

Four minutes later he sent a second message under the subject travels, listing his next two trips, to Bogotá for a photography biennial and to Venice for the Biennale. That sheet is damaged by the same transfer-encoding fault and no span of it is quoted here. It is the list he had promised Epstein in 2013.929

The journey is therefore established from four independent directions: the office asking about landing arrangements, the pilot giving the tail number, Lang himself fixing the departure hour, and Lang’s own thank-you for the amazing plane the following day. The destination is Marrakech, the aircraft is Epstein’s Gulfstream IV N212JE, and the date is 6 April 2017.

Eleven days later Lang’s office invited Epstein to travel with him again, to the Venice Biennale on 9, 10 and 11 May: If yes, i will have to organize. Epstein did not go.30

September 2017: Can I again abuse you?

On 11 September 2017 Lang asked Epstein for the use of his car. The message is in Lang’s own voice and signed with his full name. Read at the page image:

Dear Jeffrey, Thank you for Avignon, although we could not leave. Your generosity is infinite. Can I again abuse you? I am invited by Prince Aga Khan to the dinner he offers for his brother’s 80th birthday this Wednesday, September 13 from 8 pm to 11 pm. It is 60 km from Paris. If your car was free this wednesdayevening to transport us. Excuse me for abusing you, again all my excuses, With my friendship, Jack Lang

Epstein answered the same day, saying it made him very happy to be asked and that he could easily accommodate it, and ending:

condiser it done

The next day Parsy sent the logistics to Epstein and to Epstein’s driver: the destination Aiglemont, 60 270 Gouvieux, a map attached as Chantilly.pdf and Plan.pdf, and a restaurant to be reached first.3132

Read the sequence rather than the sentiment. Within six months Lang had flown on Epstein’s aircraft and had asked for the use of his car, and Epstein had agreed to the car; in the same message Lang refers to Avignon as a further thing Epstein had provided. No document read for this page records the car being used. Three things asked for or provided, and the word generosity in his mouth in both of the messages quoted above.

2017 and 2018: politics, a film, and a prize

Lang and Epstein discussed American politics, and twice Lang told him in writing that he had been right. On 10 July 2017 Epstein wrote: re trump. as i said they will first go after his family. Lang’s reply a week later is one line:

You were spot on, Jeffrey!

On 19 September 2018 Lang wrote again, marked Importance: High. Read at the page image of the House Oversight copy:

Have you received my email about Serge Moati’s film project?

Our recent conversation on Trump was exciting.

Once again you are right.

See you soon,

With my friendship,

Jack

Five days later he put Epstein in touch with a colleague on the film, explaining that Serge Moati did not speak English and that Philippe Castro did. The message ends Here are the contacts from Philippe: and no contact details follow it in the released text of either copy.333435

Epstein was by now moving between Lang and Tom Pritzker. On 12 September 2018 Pritzker wrote to Epstein Perfect. I will get you a letter on Monday. On 26 September Epstein wrote to Lang:

tom pritzker has asked if you have ideas re the Pritzker Prize

Thirteen days later Epstein sent Lang a four point agenda. Read at the page image, the first two items are:

i have asked philipe for bank details for friends of jack project. 2. have we been able to put tom pritzler in touch with govt directly.

A fourth item asked when the next Marrakesh trip would be. The third item concerns a private individual and nothing from it is reproduced here.36123

That message sets out, in Epstein’s own numbering, what he was using the relationship for: banking arrangements for a project carrying Lang’s name, and Lang as a route from an American billionaire to a government. The documents do not say what the project was, which government was meant, or whether either item went anywhere.

7 December 2018: Lang’s name in a conversation with Steve Bannon

A chat log in the release records an iMessage exchange with Steve Bannon. The document’s own header gives the platform as iMessage, the timezone as UTC+0000 and the date as 2018/12/07. Bannon’s messages are labelled with his name on the sheet. The other participant’s name is blacked out by the producer, and this page does not supply it.

At 10:04 pm the unnamed participant wrote:

Jacques lang should be president. And le pen should be seen to negotiate on behallf of the vests. Win all the way

Bannon answered forty-seven seconds later:

I heard Jacques Lang good guy

This was read at the page image, where the two speakers are distinguished by labelled chat bubbles; the released text layer runs the speakers together in a way that does not settle who said what. the vests is the gilets jaunes, and the exchange sits beside messages about Bill Barr and Rex Tillerson.37

Epstein tried repeatedly to introduce Lang to a friend he called steve. On 15 June 2018 he wrote to Lang: i will again be in paris the week of the 24 th, my friend will be there , id like you to meet, and if you believe his insights can be helpful to any of your colleagues let me know. Lang replied Yes will great pleasure. A week later Epstein wrote that my friend steve did not come yet. The last attempt is dated 1 April 2019, three months before Epstein’s arrest that July: would you like to come to meet steve tonight. No document read for this page records the meeting happening.3813

The end of the file

The last message from Lang’s side is dated 23 January 2019. It is from Parsy, and it says Jack Lang will be in Egypt this week =nd., quoted as the sheet prints it with no letter supplied.39

Six days earlier, Epstein’s office had been arranging his Paris diary. Lesley Groff asked whether there were appointments for Epstein in Paris and was told that Epstein has to coordinate with mr Lang. Two further appointments follow in the same clause and are not reproduced here. Lang was the first of the three.40

What the documents do not show

Stated as negatives, each scoped to the search that produced it. No document read for this page records: Lang at any Epstein property; Lang on any flight other than the April 2017 Marrakech journey; any flight log, passenger list or manifest naming him; any payment instrument, bank record or receipt for the 100k; any completed purchase of the Marrakesh property; any meeting between Lang and Steve Bannon; any statement by Lang about Epstein’s convictions; or any reply by Lang to Epstein’s 28 January 2013 message. flight log returns zero documents across the 872, against a control on Marrakech in the same run returning 33 and a null token returning 0.13

None of these is a claim about what the whole release holds. Each is a claim about the 872 documents read for this page and the name forms listed in the scope note.

Footnotes

  1. Scope and method, measured against the released index on 6 November 2026. The index file was pinned by path and its size compared against the recorded value of 10,982,875,136 bytes before every run; the comparison was printed and matched. A zero-byte decoy of the same filename exists elsewhere on this machine and returns a non-zero exit code with empty output; every return code here was read un-piped and no empty result was converted into a zero. Controls, run in the same invocations: the phrase richard m berman returned 371 documents / 885 sheets, matching this project’s standing figure; jeevacation returned 752,295 sheets; a freshly generated token verified unused returned 0. Aim control, which could have failed: the count for jack lang taken from the full-text index, 691 documents / 718 sheets, was required to equal the figure produced independently by this project’s own name-variant tool, and did. The union of all fifteen returning forms is 887 documents, computed as one query over DISTINCT efta_number and not by addition. Set algebra throughout this page is at document level. This project’s full-text index combines boolean terms per sheet rather than per document, so any co-occurrence figure taken from a boolean would be a per-sheet floor; none is used here. The index is default unicode61 and does not substring-match, read from its own schema. Exclusives, after treating j lang and j. lang as one form: jack lang 624 · jacques lang 163 · jacque lang 10 · m lang 8 · jack langs 4 · mr lang 2 · jaques lang 1 · jack tang 1 · fran jack 1. The brief for this page gave a floor of about 697 on three forms; the eleven further forms tested here add 190 documents. Fifteen documents were then pruned as a different bearer and the prune was checked in both directions: no pruned document is reached by any kept form. The pruned population is 872 and it is a floor, not a ceiling. Bound, stated and not rounded away: the 164 documents reached by jacques lang were sampled and not read exhaustively, so a wrong bearer could survive inside them; and no Arabic or Chinese spelling of the name was testable. ↩ ↩2 ↩3

  2. The act count and its denominator. Denominator: the 872 documents of the pruned population. 117 of them carry an outermost From: header naming his side of the correspondence. Those 117 carry 79 distinct outermost message timestamps; eight of the 79 are one message exported twice a minute apart and were verified individually, so the floor for distinct messages is 71. Classified by the signature read on the outermost body of each: 48 are Jack Lang’s own first person, 28 are his assistant writing about him in the third person from the same account, and 3 are signed by Monique Lang. The classifier was run with planted controls inside the subset for each of the three classes and for a negative, and all five returned the expected class. The project’s sender column is not this measurement and disagrees with it in both directions. The column records Jack Lang on 110 documents and six further damaged spellings of his name on 6 more, 116 in all. Three documents whose outermost header is his side carry no Jack Lang value in that column, and two documents that carry one have an outermost header that is Epstein’s office, not his. The column also cannot distinguish the man from his assistant, which is the larger error: on more than a third of the message timestamps the account is his and the writer is not. Date span: 12 November 2012 to 23 January 2019, taken from header and stamp values and not from body prose. Gaps in the sequence: 13 February 2014 to 30 March 2015, and 27 October 2015 to 21 February 2017. Document-type labels were not relied on for any count on this page. The 116 sender-column documents carry only two labels between them, email.header on 108 and email.footer_only on 8, which is a measurement of a classifier and not of the documents. ↩ ↩2 ↩3 ↩4 ↩5 ↩6

  3. What was withheld, and on what ground. A different bearer of this surname is a substantial correspondent in this material. That person is not the subject of this page, is not named, described or characterised anywhere on it, and nothing is taken from any message of that person’s. Several documents in the scoped population carry family detail, a minor’s schooling, a bereavement and medical matter concerning private individuals: none of it is reproduced, described or located here. Where a message quoted on this page contained such material alongside material that is used, the quotation is taken from a contiguous span that does not include it, and no elision mark is placed inside any quoted span, because no quoted span on this page is elided. One document in the population was identified as a Block S stop and was not opened. It is not named here and no reason is given that would locate it. Contact values were withheld as a class. No telephone number, fax number, account identifier or e-mail address is printed anywhere on this page, with the single standing exception of Epstein’s own published address where it stands inside a quoted header. This page makes no statement about how any producer treated any such value in any copy. Where the difference between two copies is a mail transfer-encoding or extraction artefact rather than a producer’s decision, this page treats the paper as governing and says so at the footnote concerned. ↩ ↩2 ↩3 ↩4

  4. A news report carried in the release. EFTA01115096, sheet 1 as printed. Released text only; this sheet was not read at the page image. The report describes a press conference given on a visit to Taiwan at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture and names the speaker as former French Culture Minister Jack Lang. This page takes from this sheet only that one description, which it uses to identify the bearer of the name and for nothing else. The document is reached by the form j ack lang, which is the released text’s rendering of a transfer-encoding break inside the forename; the underlying string on the sheet is the ordinary spelling. ↩ ↩2

  5. A message from Fabrice Parsy to Jeffrey Epstein from Jack Lang’s account, 17 May 2017. EFTA00697549, sheet 1 as printed. Released text only. The message reads Dear Jeffrey, are you free today at 17H30 to come in Jack Lang's office at the World arab institute? and is signed Fabrice. the World arab institute is this writer’s English rendering of the Institut du monde arabe; the page states that identification and does not put it inside the quotation. Two further copies of this message stand in the release at the same timestamp and are not separately cited. ↩ ↩2

  6. A message from Jeffrey Epstein to Henry Rosovsky, sent 28 January 2013 at 5:04 pm, carrying forward the attachment petitprince.docx. EFTA01907196, sheet 1 as printed. Released text only; this sheet was not read at the page image. The quoted line is Epstein’s own and is reproduced exactly as the released text prints it, including i will review„, formr, cdication and fiance. No letter is supplied and no spelling is corrected inside the quotation. This page does not state what Rosovsky did with the attachment, because no reply from him appears in the material read for this page. ↩ ↩2 ↩3 ↩4

  7. Two messages from Fabrice Parsy to Jeffrey Epstein from Jack Lang’s account, 5 December 2012. EFTA00949663 at 11:22:30 and EFTA00646607 at 16:04:12. Released text only. Parsy signs the first Fabrice Parsy / Collaborator of Jack Lang and the second identically. The first fixes a meeting at a named theatre; the second asks Epstein for his mobile telephone number, and this page records that a number was asked for and prints no number. Epstein’s reply thank you for " tonight". is at EFTA01974920, 6 December 2012; the inner quotation marks are the sheet’s own. No telephone number is printed anywhere on this page. ↩ ↩2 ↩3

  8. Four messages of 4 April 2017. Parsy’s enquiry from Lang’s account: EFTA00634452. Epstein’s pilots copied on email, and Captain Larry Visoski’s first reply beginning Fabrice,. Message received: EFTA02377906, released text only, whose transfer-encoding faults are not quoted. Visoski’s arrival information, copied to Jack LANG: EFTA00683349. The arrival-information sheet was read at the page image, HTTP 200, 66,341 bytes, 2 pages, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The three quoted lines and Epstein’s pilots copied on email were verified at the image, including the stray comma and full stop in Main Terminal area,.. Names of handling-agent staff stand on this sheet and none is reproduced here. Producer’s marks fall on this sheet. Nothing under any of them is read, supplied or described, and this page does not say what any of them covers. The tail number and aircraft type are quoted from the body of the message and are the pilot’s own words about his employer’s aircraft. ↩ ↩2 ↩3 ↩4 ↩5

  9. Jack Lang to Jeffrey Epstein, 7 April 2017 at 10:50:11 +0000, subject Thank you, signed Jack Lang. EFTA01050240. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 17,901 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control on the same route in the same session returning HTTP 403 and 111 bytes of XML. pdfimages -list reports the served file’s native resolution as 96 pixels per inch and the reading is taken from that native raster. The entire body of the message is quoted and every character of it was verified at the image. The apostrophe in Majorelle's could not be settled as typographic or straight at 96 pixels per inch, which is the served file’s native resolution; it is quoted in the straight form the released text carries, the question is recorded here rather than resolved silently, and no other character of the message is in doubt. Producer’s marks fall on this sheet. Nothing under any of them is read, supplied or described. Majorelle is the Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech; the page does not place that identification inside the quotation, and no document read for this page states it. This page does not infer from this message who else was aboard the aircraft: Lang writes us, and the sheet does not say whom that includes. Epstein’s reply a minute later, elegant. your friend was very kind, is EFTA01050241. ↩ ↩2 ↩3

  10. A message from Jeffrey Epstein, 10 December 2012 at 10:26:44 pm, whose To: line names Jack Lang. EFTA01914116. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 54,603 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The whole body of the message is the single sentence quoted, and it was verified at the image, including the space before the slash in prince /princesses and the doubled space before and. Producer’s marks fall on this sheet. Nothing under any of them is read, supplied or described, and this page does not say what any of them covers. Jack Lang is the addressee of this message, and this page names no other person in connection with it. No currency is stated on the sheet and none is supplied here; 100k is quoted as printed. No payment record for this sum, and no reply to this message, was found in the material read for this page. ↩ ↩2 ↩3

  11. Three messages of 30 and 31 March 2015 from Jack Lang’s account. The first, subject from Monique Lang, signed Monique Lang: EFTA01748059. The price reply: EFTA01748100. The further reply The owner has a bursar since decades: EFTA01743969. Released text only; the price sheet was fetched but the reading here is taken from the released text and no character of it is certified at the image. The sheet prints curos and the page quotes it as printed; no currency is supplied. The three quoted spans are each contiguous within their own message and none is joined to another. The forwarded transfer-service block on these sheets carries third-party names, an address and a file name; none of it is quoted here beyond nothing at all, and no statement is made about the property’s identity, location within Marrakesh, owner or agent. No purchase record of any kind was found in the material read for this page. ↩ ↩2 ↩3 ↩4

  12. Jeffrey Epstein, 9 October 2018 at 16:08 Paris time, addressed to Jack Lang among others. EFTA02619122. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 73,511 bytes, 2 pages, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The quoted span is contiguous on the paper and was verified character by character at the image, including both doubled spaces. The paper decides against the released text in one place on this sheet, which renders the paper’s tom as torn, the m-for-rn confusion this production makes systematically; the paper governs and the quotation carries the paper’s tom. philipe, directly. and marrakesh? stand the same way on the paper and in the released text, and no correction is made to any of them. The quotation stops before the third numbered item, which concerns a private individual; the span quoted is contiguous and is not elided. The fourth item is described in the page’s own prose and is not quoted. This message went to more than one recipient and this page names only Jack Lang. No address of any kind is printed anywhere on this page. friends of jack project is quoted as the sheet prints it and this page does not say what the project was, because no document read for this page says. ↩ ↩2 ↩3

  13. Negatives, each scoped to the search that produced it. Bearer screen for the Australian Premier of the same name: every one of the 887 raw-union documents was screened in one pass for the vocabulary of New South Wales politics and the subject’s dates. Thirteen documents matched, all thirteen were read, and all thirteen are false positives of the screen; the screen was proved to fire on a planted Premier of New South Wales and to be silent on a null token in the same run. No document in this population concerns the Australian Premier. Travel records: the phrase flight log returns 0 documents across the 872; passenger manifest returns 0; the token manifest returns 1, which is an education record of a private individual and was pruned. A control on Marrakech or Marrakesh in the same run returned 33 documents and a null token returned 0, so the zero is a measurement and not a dead instrument. The April 2017 journey is nonetheless fully documented, by the pilot’s own messages and by Lang’s own thank-you, and the absence of a log is an absence of a log and not an absence of the flight. Caribbean vocabulary returns 5 documents in the 872; the only one bearing on Lang is the quoted March 2014 offer. Not found in the material read for this page: any payment instrument, bank record, wire confirmation or receipt for the 100k; any contract, deposit or closing record for the Marrakesh property; any record of a meeting between Lang and Steve Bannon; any statement by Lang about Epstein’s convictions; any reply over Lang’s own signature to Epstein’s message of 28 January 2013. Unmeasured, and therefore not negatives: whether Lang appears under a title or role phrase that never spells the name; what the single refused document contains; and whether the 164 jacques lang documents, which were sampled rather than read in full, hold further material. ↩ ↩2 ↩3 ↩4 ↩5 ↩6 ↩7 ↩8 ↩9

  14. A message from Jack Lang to Jeffrey Epstein, 12 November 2012 at 5:18 pm, subject from Jack Lang. EFTA02562630. Read at the page image, fetched read-only from the site’s documented per-document path: HTTP 200, 62,483 bytes, a PDF of 1 page, against a negative control fetched on the same route in the same session that returned HTTP 403 and 111 bytes of XML. pdfimages -list reports the served file’s native resolution as 96 pixels per inch and the reading is taken from that native raster with no upsampling. The three sentences quoted on this page were verified character by character at the image. Other lines of this message carry a mail transfer-encoding fault that is present on the paper itself, not introduced by extraction; none of those lines is quoted and no character is supplied for any of them. Nothing else on this sheet is reproduced, described, counted or located. No earlier message setting out the proposal Lang accepts was found in the material read for this page, and none is supplied. ↩ ↩2

  15. A message from Jack Lang to Jeffrey Epstein, 3 December 2012 at 16:04:51 +0000. EFTA00949083. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 50,160 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. All four quoted lines were verified at the image, including the space before the full stop in I have two tickets .. The paper carries the French accents that the released text of this sheet loses, and the paper reads ,, where the released text renders a low double quotation mark; neither affects any span quoted here. The meeting of 2 December 2012 is derived from this message’s own tank you for yesterday, which is the sheet’s own spelling, read at the image with no letter supplied, and from its header date, not from body prose elsewhere. Two further copies of this message stand in the release and are not separately cited. ↩ ↩2 ↩3

  16. Two messages of 28 January 2013. The covering note from Fabrice Parsy, sent 10:43 am, is EFTA02675988, released text only; it is headed Petit Prince and carries petitprince.docx among its attachments. Epstein’s reply of 11:51:19 am is EFTA01908083, headed Re: Petit Prince. The reply was read at the page image, HTTP 200, 70,248 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The central word was read at the page image and the quotation carries what the paper prints, sexuialitys. At this sheet’s native 96 pixels per inch the word carries two dotted i strokes, its fifth and eighth letters, with the l ascender standing between them, and the released text layer of this sheet prints the same spelling. No divergence between paper and released text arises on this word, and none is asserted here. The whole quoted span was verified at the image, including every doubled space and every full stop, and no character anywhere in it was supplied, repaired or removed. Parsy’s covering note is quoted from the image of this same sheet, where it stands below Epstein’s reply as quoted matter. Producer’s marks fall on this sheet. Nothing under any of them is read, supplied or described. A further recipient of Parsy’s message is not named on this page. The attachment itself is not in the release in any form found by the searches run for this page, and no statement is made here about its contents beyond what the two messages say. ↩ ↩2 ↩3

  17. Two messages. Howard Earl Gardner to Jeffrey Epstein, 2 February 2013 at 1:38 am, subject petit prince: EFTA02403705. Epstein’s reply at 7:01:58 +0000: EFTA00953130. Released text only; neither sheet was read at the page image. Gardner’s sentence is quoted exactly as the released text prints it, including the transfer-encoding faults in to b= frank and beh=nd it; no letter is supplied for either, and the page does not state what the missing characters were. Epstein’s two quoted sentences stand clean in the released text and are quoted as printed. This page does not describe Gardner’s position or affiliation beyond calling him a Harvard academic, which rests on the name as the sheet prints it and on nothing in the documents. ↩ ↩2

  18. Three messages. Epstein, 7 May 2013, how is the new job?: EFTA01974100. Epstein, 12 May 2013 at 10:11:24 pm, are you having fun yet , with your new job?: EFTA01975357. Lang’s reply, 24 May 2013 at 09:17:54 +0000, signed Jack Lang: EFTA00668987. Released text only. The documents do not name the job. The identification of it as the presidency of the Institut du monde arabe is this page’s, and it rests on the Institut appearing as the setting of Lang’s working day throughout the rest of the file, beginning with the meeting of June 2013 and the office invitation of May 2017. No document read for this page states the appointment. ↩ ↩2

  19. Lang to Epstein, 3 June 2013 at 15:22:55 +0000, signed Jack Lang, quoting Epstein’s message of 2 June 2013 at 14:47. EFTA00961641. Released text only. Both quoted lines are reproduced as the released text prints them, including morroco and visitng. A second copy of this message exists at the following minute and is not separately cited; its released text carries transfer-encoding faults that this copy does not, and the clean copy is the one quoted. ↩ ↩2

  20. A chain of short messages of 12 to 14 June 2013 from Jack Lang’s account to Jeffrey Epstein, ending with the Institut’s street address. EFTA00680752 (ok at the arabian institut?), EFTA00691809 (do you kon the adress), EFTA00962702 (the address). Epstein’s thanks of 15 June 2013, thank you for taking the time to meet yesterday, is EFTA01967442. Released text only. The address line is not quoted on this page, because the released text damages its first character and the sheet was not rendered; the page states only that the address was sent. The meeting is dated 14 June 2013 from the header dates of the messages either side of it, not from body prose. ↩ ↩2

  21. A message from Fabrice Parsy to Jeffrey Epstein from Jack Lang’s account, forwarded inside Epstein’s own reply of 16 June 2013, subject Re: FETE DE LA MUSIQUE NYC. EFTA01969441. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 120,507 bytes, 2 pages, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. Both quoted sentences were verified at the image, as was Parsy’s signature block Fabrice Parsy / Collaborator of Jack Lang. The sheet also carries a forwarded French message from a third party. None of it is quoted, described or located here. The statement that Lang created the Fête de la Musique as Culture Minister is this page’s own and is not taken from any document in the release. ↩ ↩2

  22. Lang to Epstein, 2 September 2013 at 15:49:00 +0000, signed Jack Lang. EFTA00968906. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 58,420 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The three quoted spans were verified at the image. One sentence of this message names three private individuals travelling with him. It is not reproduced, described, counted or located here, and no quoted span on this page crosses it: each quotation is taken from a separate, contiguous sentence of the message. Epstein’s quoted line of 1 September 2013 stands below as quoted matter on the same sheet. ↩ ↩2

  23. A travel itinerary for Jeffrey Epstein covering February 2014. EFTA00284910 and a second printing at EFTA00374724. Released text only; neither sheet was read at the page image. This page takes from this document only that the Monday 10 February 2014 entry opens with the words PARIS To See: Jack Lang and that two of the names following in the same line are those cited. The remainder of the list is not reproduced, counted or described, because several of its entries are bare forenames of private individuals. No flight, aircraft or passenger detail is taken from this document, and the page makes no statement about any other day of the itinerary. ↩ ↩2

  24. Lang to Epstein, 30 September 2015 at 11:37:35 +0000, signed Jack & Monique, quoting Epstein’s message of 2 March 2014 at 14:19. EFTA00844879. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 40,965 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. Both quoted spans were verified at the image, including the doubled spaces in Epstein’s line and the spelling caribean. The eighteen-month interval is arithmetic on the two dates printed on this one sheet, the header date and the date of the quoted message, and on nothing else. This page does not state that the nice gesture was the trip offer, that any trip was taken, or that any expense was paid, because the sheet establishes none of those things. A second copy of this message stands in the release at the following minute and is not separately cited. ↩ ↩2 ↩3

  25. Mark Lloyd to Jeffrey Epstein, 13 April 2015 at 11:56:05 +0000, subject Education & Health in Morroco. EFTA00658818. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 37,669 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The quoted sentence was verified at the image, including the spellings Jaques and Polytechique. The Moroccan businessman is named on the sheet and is not named here, and nor is the further individual named in the sheet’s closing paragraph; neither name is needed for anything this page says. An initialism in the opening line is not expanded here, because the sheet does not expand it and this page does not supply one. This page makes no statement about whether the venture existed, proceeded or involved Lang in any way. ↩

  26. An invitation sent to Jeffrey Epstein, 23 October 2015 at 3:40 pm, subject for the 23rd of November, and a fuller printing of the same invitation forwarded within Epstein’s office on 27 October 2015. EFTA01796479 and EFTA02069777. The office reply asking how to respond is EFTA02069799. Released text only. This page takes from these sheets only three things: that the screening was private and by invitation, that the theatre was generously made available by Bernard-Henri LEVY and La Regle du Jeu, and that Epstein’s own office handled the reply. The subject of the film, the occasion of the screening and the signatories of the invitation are not reproduced, described or located here, on the ground that they concern a bereavement in a private family. The one quoted span is contiguous and is taken from the copy at EFTA02069799, whose released text prints the venue’s name intact. The other two printings of this invitation each damage a different word of that same clause, one of them the venue’s name itself, and neither is quoted. ↩ ↩2

  27. Two messages of 5 April 2017 from Jack Lang’s account. Parsy’s at 10:23 am proposing eleven o’clock, and Lang’s own at 10:35 am signed Jack: EFTA02348694 and EFTA02348660. Epstein’s reply 11 15 fine. no worry . the plane will no= leave without us :) is at EFTA02653679. Released text only for Parsy’s and Lang’s sheets, which were not read at the page image. Epstein’s sheet was read at the page image, HTTP 200, 170,217 bytes, 3 pages, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. Lang’s line is quoted exactly as the released text prints it, with the transfer-encoding fault in =raffic left standing and no letter supplied. Epstein’s line carries the same class of fault and is quoted on this page as far as the plane will no= leave without us, exactly as the sheet prints it and with no letter supplied. The = stands on the paper as well as in the released text, and this page supplies no reading of the damaged word inside the quotation. The page states no departure time as a fact, only what each party proposed. ↩ ↩2

  28. Three messages of 6 April 2017. Parsy from Lang’s account at 08:23:11 +0000: EFTA00665254. Epstein to his pilot at 07:24:55 +0000: EFTA01050176. Visoski’s reply at 07:31:29 +0000: EFTA00707352. Released text only. Epstein’s question about terminals is quoted from EFTA02654896 and from the quoted matter in EFTA00665254, which agree. le Bourget is Paris Le Bourget airport; the page states that identification and does not put it inside the quotation. No departure or arrival time is stated on this page as a fact, and no flight duration, route or passenger list is asserted, because no document read for this page gives any of them. ↩ ↩2

  29. Jack Lang to Jeffrey Epstein, 7 April 2017 at 10:54 am, subject travels, signed Jack Lang. EFTA02655433. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 24,253 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. No span of this message is quoted on this page. The sheet carries a mail transfer-encoding fault that is present on the paper itself, breaking words and leaving markup fragments in the body, and this page declines to quote a damaged span and declines to supply any character. Read at the image, the message opens As promised, lists two forthcoming trips with their dates, and is signed in his own name. The page states that content in its own prose and nothing more. The subject line travels is quoted because it is clean on the paper. ↩ ↩2

  30. Fabrice Parsy from Jack Lang’s account to Jeffrey Epstein, 18 April 2017 at 15:16:49 +0000. EFTA01049118. Released text only. The quoted span is contiguous. The sheet prints Jack Lag for the second occurrence of the name and Biennal for the event; the quotation reproduces the sheet and no letter is supplied. The statement that Epstein did not go rests on his own message of 11 May 2017, quoted in EFTA00697549: sorry i couldnt come to venice I am in paris now. It is a statement about that message and not about Epstein’s movements generally. ↩ ↩2

  31. Jack Lang to Jeffrey Epstein, 11 September 2017 at 3:50 pm, signed Jack Lang, surviving as quoted matter inside Fabrice Parsy’s message of 12 September 2017 at 15:56:54 +0000. EFTA01026553. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 70,618 bytes, 2 pages, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The whole of Lang’s message is quoted and every character was verified at the image, where it is set as one continuous reflowed block in a monospaced face; the line breaks in that block are wrapping and not newlines, so the quotation above is contiguous and nothing is joined. A second copy at EFTA02629217 sets the same message as separate paragraphs and carries a transfer-encoding fault in two words; the clean copy is the one quoted. The word wednesdayevening is one word on both papers. Parsy’s logistics message on the same sheet gives the destination, the attachments Chantilly.pdf; Plan.pdf and a prior appointment; a third party to it is Epstein’s driver, who is not named here. This page does not state whether the dinner took place or whether Lang travelled in Epstein’s car, because no document read for this page records either. ↩ ↩2

  32. Jeffrey Epstein to Jack Lang, 11 September 2017 at 1:53 pm, subject Re: 13th of september. EFTA02629217. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 75,459 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The quoted words condiser it done were verified at the image and are the sheet’s own spelling; no letter is supplied. The remainder of Epstein’s sentence carries a transfer-encoding fault and is given on this page in its own prose rather than inside quotation marks. The time of 1:53 pm is the sheet’s Sent: value; Lang’s message it replies to is timestamped 3:50 pm on the same sheet, which is the two parties’ clocks and not an interval this page derives. ↩ ↩2

  33. Jack Lang to Jeffrey Epstein, 17 July 2017 at 08:48:09 +0000, quoting Epstein’s message of 10 July 2017 at 23:17. EFTA00648559. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 37,298 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. Both quoted spans were verified at the image, including the doubled space in Epstein’s line. This page does not state what prediction Epstein was referring to, or what Lang took himself to be agreeing with, because the sheet establishes neither. ↩ ↩2

  34. Jack Lang to Jeffrey Epstein, 19 September 2018 at 2:56:08 pm, marked Importance: High, signed Jack. HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_032811. Read at the page image, fetched read-only from the Seventh Production’s own page-image path at archive.org, which is a different route from the one linked here: HTTP 200, 917,117 bytes, a JPEG, against a negative control on the same path pattern with an identifier verified not to exist, fetched in the same session, which returned HTTP 404 and an HTML error page. The four quoted lines and the sign-off were verified at the image. The salutation is not quoted on this page: the paper and the two released text layers disagree on the number of letters in it, and 96 pixels per inch would not settle the question even if this were that resolution, so it is left out and the fact is recorded here. A copy of this message in the EFTA series, EFTA02624005, was also read at the page image; its paper carries a mail transfer-encoding fault across every quoted line, which is an export artefact and not a producer’s decision, and the clean copy is the one quoted. Producer’s marks fall on both sheets. Nothing under any of them is read, supplied or described. ↩ ↩2

  35. Jack Lang to Jeffrey Epstein, 24 September 2018 at 14:43:05 +0000, signed Jack. EFTA01022138, with a House Oversight printing of the same message at HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_026324. Released text only for both; neither was read at the page image. The quoted phrase Here are the contacts from Philippe: is followed by no contact details in the released text of either copy, and this page states that absence rather than characterising its cause: it is not established here whether the values were withheld by the producer or lost in extraction, and no statement is made about where they might stand. The page’s account of the referral is taken from the message’s two plain sentences about who speaks English. ↩ ↩2

  36. Two messages. Tom Pritzker to Jeffrey Epstein, 12 September 2018: EFTA02622866. Epstein to Jack Lang, 26 September 2018 at 17:14:42 +0000: EFTA01021764. The second was read at the page image, HTTP 200, 72,751 bytes, 2 pages, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The quoted line was verified at the image, where the released text’s torn pritzker is confirmed to be the sheet’s own rendering; the quotation above gives the page’s reading of the paper, tom pritzker, and this correction is declared here rather than made silently. This page does not state that the two messages are connected, only their dates and their contents. Pritzker’s line is quoted from the released text and the sheet was not rendered. ↩ ↩2

  37. A chat log produced in the release, six sheets. EFTA01615491, sheet 3 as printed, which is page_number 2 under this project’s zero-indexed convention. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 180,198 bytes, 6 pages, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The document’s own first sheet carries its header: Platform: iMessage, Timezone: UTC+0000, and the date 2018/12/07. The date on this page is taken from that header and from the per-message timestamps printed beside each bubble, not from body prose. The image sets the conversation as labelled chat bubbles. Messages from one participant are captioned Steve Bannon and carry his initials; messages from the other are set opposite and carry a producer’s mark over the participant’s name. This page attributes the message at 10:05:22 pm to Steve Bannon because the sheet captions it with his name, and attributes the message at 10:04:35 pm to no one, because the sheet does not name that participant. Nothing under the producer’s mark is read, supplied or described, and this page does not say whose name it covers. Both quoted spans were verified at the image, including the doubled spaces and the spellings behallf and Jacques lang. The released text layer of this sheet runs the speakers and their timestamps together and does not settle the attribution; the image does, and that is why it was rendered. the vests is read by this page as the gilets jaunes; that reading is the page’s own and stands outside the quotation. Nothing else on this sheet or on the other five sheets of this document is reproduced, described, counted or located. ↩ ↩2

  38. Three messages from Jeffrey Epstein and one reply. Epstein, 15 June 2018 at 00:10: EFTA02638515, quoted on this page from Lang’s reply at EFTA00984005, 15 June 2018 at 14:24:48 +0000, where it stands as quoted matter with a clean released text. Epstein, 21 June 2018, my friend steve did not come yet, but i am her= for the next week: EFTA02570015, quoted on this page only as far as the clean words. Epstein, 1 April 2019, would you like to come to meet steve tonight: EFTA02635692, with a further message the same morning at EFTA02635061. Released text only. The documents do not say that my friend in the June 2018 message and steve in the June 2018 and April 2019 messages are the same person, and this page does not assert that they are. It states that Epstein proposed an introduction, that Lang agreed to meet whoever was proposed, and that a person Epstein called steve was still being proposed in April 2019. No document read for this page records any meeting taking place. ↩ ↩2 ↩3

  39. Fabrice Parsy from Jack Lang’s account to Jeffrey Epstein, 23 January 2019 at 4:48 pm. EFTA02627864. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 46,646 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The quoted sentence carries the transfer-encoding fault in its final word exactly as the sheet prints it, and no letter is supplied. The = stands on the paper as well as in the released text, and this page supplies no reading of the damaged word inside the quotation. This message went to a further recipient, who is not named on this page. This is the latest message from Lang’s side found by any form tested for this page; the statement is about the material read for this page and not about the release as a whole. ↩ ↩2

  40. A message in an exchange about Jeffrey Epstein’s Paris diary, 17 January 2019, in which Lesley Groff is a participant. EFTA02274255. Released text only. This page takes from this sheet one quoted phrase only, that Epstein has to coordinate with mr Lang, and the fact that Groff was asking about Paris appointments. Two further appointments are named in the same clause and neither is reproduced here. The author of the quoted clause is not named on this page, and the production has covered the name. Nothing else on this sheet is reproduced, described or located, and the page makes no statement about any other appointment, person or date in the exchange. ↩ ↩2

  41. Lang to Epstein, 21 November 2013 at 2:20 pm, subject this evening. EFTA02577994. Released text only. The body of this message is not quoted on this page: the released text runs the sentence directly into a block of property-list markup with no separation, and the sheet was not rendered, so the point at which the message ends cannot be established from the text layer. The page states only that Lang gave a time and a place. Epstein’s message of the same evening, thank you for dinner. the performance and your time, is EFTA01947260. ↩

  42. Jack Lang to Jeffrey Epstein, 18 May 2018 at 16:31:31 +0000, signed Jack. EFTA01054869. Read at the page image, HTTP 200, 40,812 bytes, 1 page, 96 pixels per inch, with the negative control as recorded above. The quoted lines were verified at the image. IMA is the sheet’s own abbreviation and is quoted as printed; the page’s identification of it as the Institut du monde arabe stands outside the quotation. Epstein’s question two days later, what is museum nightP, is EFTA02660431. ↩
