How a Jeepers transfer was made

On Monday 4 April 2016 at 4:07 PM, an assistant in Epstein’s office wrote to a Deutsche Bank officer, copying Epstein’s lawyer and his accountant:

Vahe, Please transfer $100,000 from Jeepers account ▮ to Private bank Jeepers account ▮

At 4:13 PM the bank turned it into a request for authority: “Darren, please confirm a transfer of $100k between Jeepers DB accounts per Bella’s email below.” At 4:16 PM the answer came back from the law office of Darren K. Indyke, PLLC, and the whole message is one word:

Confirmed.

At 4:17 PM: “Thanks Darren. We will process tomorrow.”1

What the sequence documents is the chain of authority over the entity’s money: the office instructs, the lawyer confirms, the bank executes. Both account numbers are redacted on the sheet and neither is reproduced here.

The next morning the bank could not execute it internally. The officer asked a colleague “who is helping you with wires these days? Southern Financial wants to wire funds from KCP to a deposit account, and we need a screenshot to do so.”, the request was passed to a second colleague, and she replied: “I don’t have access to your clients. I won’t be able to put this through”. ⚠⚠ No document read for this page records whether the transfer settled.1

⚠⚠ 10 August 2018: “money belong to Glenn Dubin”

A Deutsche Bank operations officer wrote to Epstein’s office on 10 August 2018, having watched money arrive and leave the same day:

I asked Bella for a quick description of the asset movements for today in anticipation of Pershing asking me for an explanation. Pershing hasn’t, and may not, ask for an explanation. They usually do though when money comes in and goes out the same day.

Earlier that morning he had put the question directly:

Thanks, but why did it have to go from Bank of America to DB to JPM? Is there a relationship between Jeepers Inc and Dubin?

The answer from Epstein’s office, at 12:08 PM, is four words:

money belong to Glenn Dubin

At 12:50 PM, asked again, the office declined to explain further in writing: “Please talk to Stewart and let him call Rich to discuss.”3

⚠⚠ WHAT THIS DOES AND DOES NOT ESTABLISH. It is a documented fact that on 10 August 2018 Epstein’s office told Deutsche Bank that money moving through a Jeepers, Inc. account belonged to Glenn Dubin. It is NOT a finding about Dubin’s affairs: the statement is one sentence written by a member of Epstein’s staff, it is not corroborated by any document read for this page, no amount is given on this sheet, and the attachment whose file name gave the thread its subject is not in the document.Nothing read here records Dubin saying anything, or knowing of the exchange.

The two details a reader should hold onto are the bank’s own: that the route ran Bank of America → Deutsche Bank → JPMorgan, and that the clearing firm named on the sheet “usually” asks for an explanation “when money comes in and goes out the same day.”3

2011: Fortress v. Jeepers

In October and November 2011 the company was in mediation before a retired judge at JAMS, in a matter captioned Fortress v. Jeepers. Epstein’s lawyer forwarded counsel’s letter to the mediator on 2 November 2011.4

⚠⚠ NOTHING ELSE ABOUT THIS CASE WAS READ. The desk did not open the letter, does not know what was in dispute, who the parties were beyond the caption, or how it ended, and does not name the lawyers on the distribution beyond the two firms’ own signature blocks. It is recorded because the caption is a fact about the entity.4

The end of the accounts

“JEEPERS INC” appears in the second block of a closure instruction sent at 7:33 AM on Monday 8 July 2019, under the heading “$0 balance brokerage accounts that are still open”. The instruction is treated in full at Kimberly Hart. Epstein had been arrested two days earlier.5

What this page does not say

⚠⚠ NO DOCUMENT READ FOR THIS PAGE STATES WHAT JEEPERS, INC. WAS, WHERE IT WAS INCORPORATED, WHO OWNED IT, OR WHAT IT DID. The desk found no certificate, no filing and no description. Everything above is an operational trace: instructions, confirmations, a question from a bank, a case caption and a closure line.A deeper pass is owed against the 1,717 documents, and this page records that debt.2

  2. The measurement. The phrase Jeepers returns 1,717 documents. ⚠ The hinge is page scope: a document counts when any one of its pages carries the word, and a quoted subject line on a forwarded copy counts. In the e-mail metadata store, Jeepers transfer and its reply forms account for roughly 213 rows, with smaller groups on Jeepers - Incoming assets received (9), DB_Jeepers_Glen Dubin_08-10-18.pdf (9) and Jeepers from Fortress (8). ⚠ These are ROW counts, not documents or distinct messages. The desk opened three documents for this page.No doc_type figure is printed, under the rule in _desk/TOOLS.md. 2

  5. 8 July 2019. EFTA01426137 p.9, page stamp EFTA01426145, read at the image at 700 dpi: JEEPERS INC is the third row under “$0 balance brokerage accounts that are still open.
