The FBI’s evidence inventory in the Epstein matter is not a single list. It survives in the released files as a set of machine-generated reports, and as a schedule of devices written into a sworn application for a search warrant in June 2020. The reports enumerate items by number, collection date and description; the warrant application counts the devices and says where each came from. Between them they establish what was taken, when, and from where, and they do so for more than one investigation.312

The devices, as counted in a court filing

An application for a search and seizure warrant filed in the Southern District of New York under case number 20 MAG 6719 sought authority to search 62 electronic devices already in FBI custody. Its caption divides them by seizure: “2 electronic devices seized on July 6, 2019 from Jeffrey Epstein; 33 electronic devices seized on July 11, 2019 from 9 East 71st Street, New York, NY; 27 electronic devices seized on August 12, 2019 from Little Saint James in the Virgin Islands”. The applicant’s signature line is typed “sworn via telephone”; the date, 26 June 2020, is a typed form-field entry, and only the judge’s signature beside it is completed by hand.3

The affidavit describes each group. The two taken at the arrest were found on Epstein himself: agents of U.S. Customs and Border Protection searched him on his re-entry to the United States at Teterboro Airport on 6 July 2019, found the two devices, and passed them to FBI special agents, who “also placed EPSTEIN under arrest” and transported the devices to FBI offices in the Southern District of New York.16 The 33 New York devices were seized “during a search of JEFFREY EPSTEIN’s private residence located at 9 East 71st Street, New York, New York, which took place on July 11, 2019”, and are itemised individually, several of them located to a book shelf cabinet in a first-floor oval study and each carrying an internal FBI barcode number.9 The 27 Virgin Islands devices were seized “during a search of a private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, known as Little Saint James” on or about 12 August 2019, and are itemised from the island’s main residence and its outbuildings.10

The affidavit refers to the devices throughout by designation, as Subject Device-1 to Subject Device-62, and this page does not go beyond those designations.

The first search of the New York residence is a separate act with its own paperwork. An FD-302 filed to case 31E-NY-3027571 records a warrant issued on 6 July 2019 and executed at the residence at 6:15 p.m. that evening, a halt when items of evidentiary value beyond the warrant’s scope were found in plain view, a rider drafted and sworn before the judge who had issued the warrant, and an amended warrant executed at approximately 2:05 a.m. on 7 July.7 The intake paperwork generated by that search is described at FBI intake records.

The trafficking case: 1B1 to 1B146

The 2025 export of the case files carries, for case 50D-NY-3027571, an evidence report filtered on type 1B. It runs from item 1B1 to item 1B146 with a collection date and time against each, and the dates follow the seizures in order: 1B1 to 1B4 on 29 May 2019, 1B5 on 6 July 2019, 1B6 to 1B27 at 3:00 a.m. on 7 July 2019, 1B28 to 1B79 on 11 July 2019 apart from 1B71 and 1B72, each dated 7/6 rather than 7/11 in the report (1B71 to 2018, an error in the document itself), and 1B80 to 1B126 at 19:20 on 12 August 2019. Nine items, numbered 1B127 to 1B134 and 1B137, carry collection dates of 28 August 2006, so material gathered during the Florida investigation sits inside the numbering of the 2018 federal file. A short tail of items was collected later still, through July 2022.1

The description column, which runs across several pages and is cut off at the right by the width of the column, shows what those numbers stand for. Alongside the servers, towers, desktops and network hardware are four massage tables, one of them carrying a Palm Beach Police Department evidence number; a box of ten yearbooks collected by the FBI’s West Palm Beach Resident Agency; a Little Saint James logbook and daily vessel trip logs; a set of blueprints for 9 East 71st Street; boxes of framed photographs; a box of shredded paper and a disk containing images of a shred reconstruction; and LTO tape cartridges holding backups of digital evidence. Other entries describe photographic material in terms not reproduced here.17

The same case file has a 1C evidence report with exactly two items, both acquired on 12 August 2019, the day of the island search. Their titles are given on the following page: each reads “(U//FOUO) Laser Scans conducted of Little Saint James Island”.1314

The death investigation: 90A-NY-3151227

The export’s second large block of reports belongs to case 90A-NY-3151227, opened by the FBI’s New York office and captioned “UNSUB(S); JEFFREY EPSTEIN - VICTIM; DEATH INVESTIGATION”.56 The export’s own summary page for that case describes it as a death investigation opened after Epstein was discovered unresponsive in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center on 08/10/2019, and records that two correctional officers were indicted, self-surrendered on 11/19/2019, and entered a deferred prosecution agreement with the Southern District of New York in May 2021.18

Three reports enumerate the material. A serial report lists the communications filed to the case: 211 serials, the first stamped 12 August 2019 at 10:26 and the last 28 February 2025 at 18:02. A 1A/1C report lists attachment items numbered 1 to 100, each with an acquisition date and the serial that brought it into the file, the earliest acquired 10 August 2019 and the latest 25 June 2024. An evidence report filtered on types 1B, 1D and 1E carries the description column for the physical and digital exhibits.19112

What that description column holds is largely storage media and the machinery it came from: two DVR systems, each itemised down to its disk array chassis by model and serial number; a box of eighteen hard drives; a Seagate drive containing “video downloaded from DVR1 at MCC contained in 4 folders”; Ultrium LTO tapes holding the CART network archive of video and the archive of MCC video images; and a long series of one-terabyte drives each described as containing the clone copy of a numbered 1B hard drive. Among the non-digital entries are one torn sheet, clothing released from New York Presbyterian Hospital, and an Apple iPhone XS identified by IMEI.220

The serial titles for the same case show the investigative work the exhibits came out of, with every personal name replaced by a bracketed marker: a submission of video evidence from the Metropolitan Correctional Center; a search of the Special Housing Unit, L-Tier, Cell 220; MCC staff rosters for 23 July to 8 August 2019, count slips for 23 July to 9 August 2019 and again for 10 August 2019, bed assignments and 30-minute round sheets for named dates; a suicide-watch drawing of the 2nd floor and drawings of the 9th and 10th; phone records for two MCC caller stations; a photograph of homemade rope from a 23 July 2019 incident; federal grand jury subpoenas served to MCC employees; a letter to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner regarding the autopsy and the resulting autopsy report; a request to send evidence to the Laboratory for handwriting analysis and a response from an FBI Laboratory forensic document examiner; and, midway through the 1A listing, two rows reading “(U//FOUO) Laser Scans conducted of Metropolitan Correctional Center” (items 46 and 47 of the same report, both under serial 100, acquired on 12 and 17 August 2019). This page names nobody from those listings and does not attempt to say who any entry concerns.1215

Digital evidence and the CART product

The Computer Analysis Response Team’s output appears in the case files as its own class of exhibit. The death case’s serial titles include repeated rows reading “Submission of CART Derivative Evidence” followed by an identifier in the NYC0 series, a “CART Process Report”, a “CART Archive designated as NYF01278”, and one row reading “CART Master Copy designated as NYC025654”. The evidence report resolves two of those: NYC025654 is listed as a Western Digital 250 GB hard drive, and NYF01278 as an IBM LTO5 data cartridge containing an archive of the case volume. The export does not say what was on either, and nothing cited here supports a description of their contents.122

The scale of the digital review is described not by the FBI’s own reports but by the prosecutors, in a March 2025 reply to a request routed from the Director’s office. A Southern District of New York attorney wrote that the FBI and the office “undertook a full review of all electronic devices seized from Epstein’s residences and incident to his arrest in 2019”, that a team of agents, analysts, assistant U.S. attorneys and paralegals “divided up the review of over one million images and videos that FBI CART extracted from Epstein’s devices”, and that reviewers were directed to identify as responsive, among other things, any image or video depicting any female who appeared to be under the age of 30; the same reply states that the review identified no image or video depicting sexual abuse and no perpetrator other than Epstein and Maxwell. The same message says the case agent kept a copy of everything identified responsive, and encloses an index recording how many images and videos were found responsive and what designation each received under the protective order in the Maxwell case. The message adds that the enclosed index does not cover Epstein’s iPhone and six iPads, which were reviewed separately under the same protocol.21

Provenance recorded years later

Two 2025 exchanges show the Bureau still establishing where particular exhibits had come from. In February 2025 a special agent of the FBI’s Baltimore/Delaware division wrote to a New York colleague under the subject “Masseuse List, black book, flight logs”, setting out the provenance of each: the attached list “was located on one of Epstein’s digital devices seized from his Manhattan residence” and had been intended as a trial exhibit but not used at the Maxwell trial; the address book had been seized by Miami-Palm Beach in the earlier investigation; and the flight logs had been provided by Epstein’s pilot. Both sender and recipient are blacked out.22

In July 2025 a New York thread ran on the passports taken from the apartment. It records item 1B76 as one Austrian passport bearing Epstein’s photograph and a name other than his, says the office also knew of five expired United States passports, and states that it had no additional documentation showing that he had travelled under a different name. The thread is mostly about retrieval rather than the passport itself: the original search-warrant evidence photographs were on a disc that could not be reached through the case-management system, and photographs of the item had to be taken afresh at the evidence office. No name and no date of birth is taken from that document here.23

What the inventory does not show

These reports are indexes to a case file, not the file. An item number with a description establishes that something was taken into custody and how it was catalogued; it does not establish what was found on it, and the serial titles name acts rather than carrying the communications themselves. Where a title reads “Interview of {REDACTED}” or “Proffer of {REDACTED}”, what the listing shows is that an interview or a proffer was filed, and nothing more.122

Two limits are in the form of the documents. The description columns are cut off at the right by the column width, so many entries stop mid-string and the full description is not recoverable from the page.1720 And the export is a compound production carrying several distinct case files under different case numbers; a description of one part of it is not a description of the whole, and every page cited here is identified by its own case file in the footnote.452
