Miroslav Lajčák is the Slovak diplomat whose iMessage thread with Jeffrey Epstein runs, in this release, from September 24, 2017 to October 16, 2018, and whose e-mail and scheduling correspondence with Epstein’s office runs on to June 12, 2019.418 The documents place him inside Epstein’s New York routine: he is on the day sheets for lunches and dinners at Epstein’s home, he is introduced by Epstein to a Dubai ports executive and to a hotel chairman, he asks Epstein for a favour on behalf of a Slovak film producer, he accepts complimentary Las Vegas show tickets for himself and two family members, and he discusses with Epstein both a possible run for the Slovak presidency and what his personal finances will look like after he leaves government.6151610111917 The release also records an exchange between the two men, on the night of October 8, 2018, that is coarse about women.2021
Nothing on this page is a finding of wrongdoing. No statement by Lajčák about this material appears in any document opened for this page.
The introduction, September 2017
The earliest sheet opened for this page that names him is not correspondence. A guest list for the “Ninth Ministerial Working Dinner on the Middle East”, held at the International Peace Institute on Monday, September 22, 2014, lists him among some thirty invitees as “Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia”; the sheet carries a “CONFIDENTIAL” watermark.2 It is a guest list and it records no act by him. It is also all but invisible to the ordinary search: the extraction of that sheet renders the surname “Lajtak”, so of the six queries listed below only the given name alone, "Miroslav", returns it.222
Three years later, on September 16, 2017, a correspondent whose contact label in Epstein’s iMessage export reads “Terje” wrote to Epstein at 07:31:10 pm UTC. (Clock times taken from these device exports are UTC because the header of each export’s first sheet prints Timezone: UTC+0000, and every such time on this page is given in that zone.) He wrote: “I had dinner with the president of the UN General Assembly, who is concurrently foreign minister of Slovakia. A great guy, and a close friend. I told him about you and he would be delighted to be invited to come by on Monday night. His name is Miroslav Lajcak. Google him! I am seeing the FM of Q at 6:30. Can I come by after that?” Epstein replied “tonite?”, then “monday night fine”, then “for slovakian”.12
The meeting was arranged two days later. On September 18, 2017 Epstein sent a correspondent whose address is barred a message whose entire body is the Wikipedia URL for Lajčák; the link is percent-encoded so that the two accented characters survive it, and the sheet prints it with a quoted-printable soft break in the middle of the word “wiki”. The Sent fields on that sheet carry no zone, so no clock time is stated for it here.23 At 04:54:27 pm UTC the same day the “Terje” correspondent asked, “Can I come with pres General Assembly, Miro, some time between 9 and 9.30 tonight?” Epstein answered “Yes” fourteen seconds later. At 08:23:25 pm UTC the correspondent wrote, “Can I come at 8:30? Miro will arrive some time between 9 and 9:30.”, and Epstein again answered “Yes”.24 The next afternoon a 375-byte attachment named Miroslav Lajcak.vcf came through the same thread, and Epstein replied “Thx , let me know about other friend”.25
A contact card for him sits in the device extraction. It gives the formatted name “Miroslav Lajcak”, the job title “Foreign Minister”, the organisation “MFA Slovakia” and the country line “Slovakia”. Five value fields on that card are barred by the producing party, and no value from it is reproduced here.3
The iMessage thread, September 2017 – October 2018
The direct thread opens on September 24, 2017. At 09:18:19 pm UTC Epstein wrote: “If you have time this week . I invite you for breakfast or lunch your choice of either and day . jeffrey”. Lajčák answered two minutes later, “With pleasure! Lunch on Friday would be the best for me. Miro”; Epstein wrote “Done 1 pm?”; Lajčák asked “OK. Will you suggest the place?”; Epstein answered “My house. ?”; and Lajčák replied “Perfect:) Looking forward!”4
The export is a Cellebrite-style rendering. The first sheet of each export carries a header block giving the platform, the timezone UTC+0000 and the two participants, one of whose contact fields is barred.4 Messages from Lajčák carry the label “Miro Lajcak” and sit left in grey; messages from Epstein sit right in blue under his own number. The text layer of this run reverses attributions. On one sheet the extraction places two of Epstein’s messages inside Lajčák’s block and on the sheet before it a third; on two further sheets it emits nothing for a picture attachment over which the producing party has drawn a bar; and on two others it moves the date dividers away from the messages they govern, so that the day changes where the extraction does not show it. Every quotation below was taken from the page image and not from the extraction, with the single exception noted at [^vegas2].262728
By October 1, 2017 the register is already familiar. Lajčák wrote “So do I:) Much to talk about. Regards from Palm Beach!”; Epstein asked “are you in palm beach?”; Lajčák answered “Yes, just for the weekend. Tonight back to New York, tomorrow back to work”; Epstein wrote “you could have used my house. there”, and then “you have a place to stay there whenever you like. you will not suffer — promise”. Lajčák answered: “I trust you:)”14
On October 25, 2017 Epstein said he had gone to see the old Yugoslav embassy, which he had been told was for sale but needed five governments to agree. Lajčák replied: “They will never agree. They try to agree on division of property since 2001, no end in sight. You should consult everything that involves former Yugoslavia or current successor states with me, I know them inside out:)“29
The scheduling channel
Alongside the direct thread runs a second, formal channel: Epstein’s assistant and the minister’s office. On October 2, 2017 an e-mail whose sender field is barred, signed “Lesley / Assistant to Jeffrey Epstein”, went to Lajčák’s account: “Hello Mr. Lajcak. Jeffrey Epstein will be in NY this Saturday Oct. 7th and is asking if you might be available to come see him at his home:”, followed by the 9 East 71st Street address and “Perhaps lunch?…Please let me know.”5 It was answered the same day, not by Lajčák but by Vanda Šipošová of his office: “Thank you very much for getting in touch. President Lajcak is travelling both this week and next week, but I do believe he should be in New York on Saturday. Shall we say 1/1:30pm?” From then on the traffic runs through her. Her signature block during his UN year prints, across three lines, “Vanda Šipošová / Office of the President / of the General Assembly H.E. Miroslav Lajčák”; after it, “Vanda Šipošová / Kancelária ministra | Office of the Minister”.307
The same lunch generated a scheduling problem in a third thread. On October 3, 2017 a member of Epstein’s staff, whose name is barred on the sheet, wrote to an assistant to Nathan Myhrvold: “I am going to throw another wrench in here!!…Jeffrey has Miroslave Lajcak, the President of the UN, coming to see him for lunch on Sat. Oct. 7 at 1pm…Jeffrey is asking if Nathan might be able to come see him before this (so noon) or after this (so like 2pm)…I believe he would like to introduce Nathan to “Miro"".9 The spellings “Miroslave” and “President of the UN” are as the sheet prints them.
Epstein’s daily schedules carry him repeatedly. The sheet for Wednesday, January 31, 2018, forwarded to Epstein by Lesley Groff the previous afternoon, New York time, reads “7:00pm DINNER w/President Lajcak, Brad Karp and Michael Wolff”, with the contact values in parentheses barred.6
On November 29, 2017 Epstein’s assistant wrote to Deepak Chopra: “Hello Deepak…I know you are confirmed for 7pm tonight…we are hoping you will be pleased to join Jeffrey, Woody Allen and his wife, Soon Yi, as well as Miroslav Lajcak, MFA Slovakia Foreign Minister, for dinner! They will all be here as well.” The sender’s name and both addresses on that sheet are barred; the signature line “Assistant to Jeffrey Epstein” prints.31 That invitation is the most duplicated document this search returned: the phrase “as well as Miroslav Lajcak, MFA Slovakia Foreign Minister” returns 26 documents.22
What each man asked the other for
November 12, 2017: the Academy shortlist. Lajčák wrote to Epstein under the subject “Re: IntroductionTheLine.pdf”. He had met the producer of a Slovak/Ukrainian film nominated for an Oscar by Slovakia: “According to her on December 11 a shortlist of 9 movies (from overall 92 national nominations) will be announced by the Academy. Of course, her biggest concern right now is how to make sure her movie will be on this short list.” He continued: “She asked me if I could help to introduce her and the movie to someone who could help. Given your extensive network of contacts I wanted to ask you if you couldn’t offer an advice, eventually help to introduce her to somebody who could help.” He added, “She is not a close friend of mine but I’ve known her for years and consider her a fair and positive person. It’s a big thing for her, but also for Slovakia and I want to help”, and closed, “Sorry if I am bothering you with this request and forget this email in case it creates any problem for you. I just think it would be a mistake not to seek your opinion.” Epstein had already replied, earlier the same day: “i will ask and send to the right person. no problem , never a bother”.10 The sheet signs him “Miroslav Lajčák / Minister of Foreign & European Affairs of the Slovak Republic”; the producer is not named in the letter and is not named here.10 Who the right person was is on the record. The same day, Epstein forwarded the letter whole to Peggy Siegal, writing above it a single line that the sheet prints with a stray quotation mark in it: “my friend who is head of the United “Nations”. Four days later she answered: “I apologize that I didn’t deal with this sooner, but I am today. I got overloaded with my work, but I’ll get into this.”32 Nothing opened for this page records what, if anything, followed.22
March 2018: Sultan Bin Sulayem, in both directions on one day. On March 2, 2018 at 09:12:55 pm UTC Epstein wrote to Lajčák: “My friend sultan. , who built Dubai. Is in charge of Dubai world going to look at logistic in Slovenia. Etc he built the palm islands in Dubai. Sultan Bin Sulayem”, followed by a contact attachment the producing party has barred, and then “I told him to talk to you”. Lajčák answered “Thanks. What time Monday?”15 Across the same two calendar dates Epstein sent Sultan Bin Sulayem an e-mail whose entire body is “Miroslav Lajčák”, his Wikipedia link, and the words “of Slovakia”; Sulayem replied, “How do I contact him”.33 The two ends of that exchange carry clocks a day apart with no zone marked on the outer field, so no time is given for it here.33 Eight months later, on November 2, 2018, Epstein sent a two-recipient e-mail addressed to Lajčák and to Sultan Bin Sulayem whose whole body reads “Sultan miro - miro sultan”; the Subject field on that sheet is blank rather than barred, and one of the two recipient addresses is barred.34
March and April 2018: the water project. Epstein asked whether a woman working on water issues could be brought into “the water project”, adding “I will subsidize if needed”. Lajčák answered: “Absolutely! Let her contact me, I will arrange.” Epstein: “thx i really appreciate it”35 Five weeks later Lajčák reported back: “My Chief of staff invited her for coffee early next week. The guy dealing with water whom I asked to contact her long ago forgot about it… Sorry.”36 Her name is barred on the sheet and is not supplied here.
April 23, 2018. Asked whether he was around, Lajčák answered: “Yes, I’m here. This week I’m hosting my landmark event - High level debate in peace and conflict prevention. Have 5 Presidents and more than 30 Ministers in town. If OK with you I could come to see you on Wednesday.” Epstein replied, “Im easy, whenever convenient”.36
May 2018: Tom Pritzker. On May 11, 2018 Epstein wrote “Tom Pritzker and you should meet . Are you in town may 30?” and, when Lajčák said he was but was “stuck in the UN until 8pm”, asked “Can I give him your number”, adding “Chairman of csis and Hyatt”. Lajčák answered: “OK, if course. I know who he his, but never met him. Would love to.” and then, an hour later, “We agreed to have a dinner May 29. Thanks!”16 On May 30, 2018 at 02:27:36 am UTC he wrote: “We just spent 3 hours having dinner with Tom. Very nice guy, thanks for arranging it!”37
June and July 2018: Steve Bannon. On June 13, 2018 Epstein asked whether there were “any other ministers politicians etc thst you think might want to gather insights from Steve”. Lajčák answered: “He is considered a friend of anti-EU parties, so “mainstream” politicians won’t wish to be seen with him. But let me think.”38 Six days later Epstein wrote “Steve cannot come ti europe . More later”; Lajčák asked “So we cancel?”; Epstein answered “Im going to be there” and “You sre of course welcome to join me terje and thorbjorn but i wanted you to have sll the facts”. Lajčák replied: “I will come”38 The dinner in question was Epstein’s, in Paris, on June 22, 2018. Lajčák had asked on June 8 “Is the dinner in Paris on the June 22 happening?”37 and, told it was, answered “Excellent. I can rearrange my schedule and be there. Just let me know the time and address, please.”; Epstein sent the venue details a minute later, and no value from that message is reproduced here.39 Two days after that, Epstein wrote: “If there someone you’d like to invite . Always ok with me . Re aug trip , I decided risk /reward not favorable at this time . Talk more f2f”. Lajčák answered: “I don’t need to invite anyone else. Not for the dinner, maybe yes to Paris:) I have a free Saturday in Paris afterwards, on Sunday I’m at Terje’s dinner in Luxembourg. Re your trip - I’d love to show you the best of my country, but you have to feel comfortable. Let’s talk when we meet.”39
After the two men met, Epstein asked on July 1, 2018 whether he had found Bannon “too agressive”; Lajčák, writing from Beijing, replied “Steve is probably the only person to tell you “you speak like a moron” and you don’t feel offended :)”, and then: “Btw, I have a person for him in Slovakia - my ex-PM Fico. He is out of government and looking for a new agenda. He would be happy to play Steve’s game. And he is good.”40
July 2018: the Las Vegas tickets. During a family driving holiday in the American west, whose day-by-day itinerary his own office had prepared for him and which reached Epstein in full inside the same thread,41 Epstein asked at 10:42 on July 20, 2018, “How many are you”. Lajčák answered at 10:44 AM, “Three, myself, my wife and our daughter”. Epstein then wrote: “Go through july 29 las vegas shows. Cirque de soleil etc = get free tickets”, and Lajčák replied at 5:01 PM, “Thanks a lot! I will check and let you know asap”. The clocks on that sheet are the Sent and quoted-header fields and carry no zone, so they are given here as the sheet prints them and no interval is asserted; the order is taken from the nesting of the quoted headers, not from the clocks.11 An executive assistant at MGM Resorts International then confirmed “3 tickets to the MJ ONE show at th= Mandalay Bay Hotel on Sunday, July 29th at 7pm for Miro LaJcak= … Complimentary tickets per Larry.” Lajčák asked “Thank you! Where do I pick up the tickets?”, Epstein answered “concieerge”, and on July 29 Lajčák wrote: “Got the tickets. Thanks!”11 The = characters in those strings are quoted-printable soft breaks carried onto the face of the sheet and are printed here as the document prints them.11 His signature on that message reads “Miroslav Lajčák / President of the UN General Assembly, 72nd s=ssion”. The Sent field on that sheet carries no zone; a second copy of the same message in the release carries an RFC header reading Sun, 29 Jul 2018 17:32:05 +0000, which matches the 5:32 PM on the first sheet, so that field is UTC.1142
September 4–8, 2018: “starting after govt”
Lajčák’s year as President of the General Assembly was ending. The day’s first message on the sheet is Epstein’s, at 12:10:39 pm UTC on September 4, 2018: “paper files. who would have believed?” At 12:11:06 pm he wrote, “june is only 9 months . i thought we should brain storm”. Lajčák answered at 12:15:14: “You are right, it’s time to start thinking. Plus this government may collapse over the bizarre story with the hijacked Vietnamese even sooner”. Epstein then wrote, at 12:16:29 pm: “I have no idea what your financial needs might be. starting after govt. do you know?” Lajčák: “No idea. It’s a whole new universe.” Epstein, at 12:18:48 pm: “yes, but this is a must . rent car. mortgage health travel. office family, extras. savings ? things to buy. cars. . etc . no excuse not to start putting in writing. ( paper only )”17 Lajčák replied at 12:22:33 pm, in one bubble printed as two lines: “Don’t get me scared…” / “But you’re probably right. Certainly. I’ll start calculating.”43
Four days later, on September 8, 2018 at 01:00:54 pm UTC, Epstein wrote two words: “Ill help”. Lajčák answered at 01:23:37 pm: “Thank you”43 The apostrophe is absent in the first of those messages and present in Lajčák’s message four days earlier on the same sheet; both are printed here as the sheet prints them.43
No document opened for this page records a payment, loan, engagement, retainer or gift of money to Lajčák, and the search run to test that was built so that it could return one. Every page of each of the 352 documents the surname search returned, not only the 540 pages that matched the surname, was scanned for the tokens wire, payment, paid, invoice, transfer, remit, loan, retainer, honorarium, consult, fee, USD, EUR, bank and for a dollar sign followed by a digit. Seventeen documents carry at least one. (The same scan restricted to the matching pages alone returns eleven, which is why the scope has to be stated.) Twelve carry the Las Vegas holiday thread, where the sums are the family’s own flight, car-hire, hotel and tour costs; the copy read at the image for this page is the one cited here, and the other eleven were matched in the extraction only; one is the iMessage sheet on which he offers to be consulted about the former Yugoslavia; and the remaining four were opened at the image one by one. Two are Epstein day sheets, one carrying a cost against an appointment on a different day and the other carrying no money word at all at the image, only the extraction’s misreading of an appointment entry; one is a mobile carrier’s roaming notice; and one is a message about a bank loan addressed to a different correspondent. Widening the same scan to the 413 documents reached by every spelling of the name, correct and damaged, adds eight more. Seven of those, read in the extraction and not at the image, carry the name of one of two other men called Miroslav, and no mention of this subject in the text the index holds; the eighth is a copy of the November 2017 film letter, opened at the image, whose money line is an unrelated request in a second message on the same sheet.22294132
August–October 2018: the presidency
On August 19, 2018 Epstein asked at 12:12:58 pm UTC, “Are you having any fun”. Lajčák sent a picture at 12:14:47 pm; Epstein answered “Oy” at 12:16:42; and at 12:27:02 Lajčák wrote: “Some fun yes. But enormous pressure on me to run for President. In 3 hours will have another meeting with my boss, former Prime Minister.” He added, at 12:29:10 pm: “My dilemma is how to say no without looking like an egoist”.19 A bar is drawn over part of the picture by the producing party, the extraction emits nothing for it, and nothing on the sheet says where it was taken.19
Epstein answered with a comparison to his own position, “Its like me trying not to look jewish”, and, asked “So? What’s the right answer?”, replied “No such thing”, then: “Balance - you only live one life. Would it be fun to be president. ? . yes they will hate you anyway. But the question is who are the “they”. Public. Other leaders. ? or your family?”44 Lajčák set out his own reasoning: “I’m not really interested to be a President of Slovakia. I’d rather see myself in an international sphere. The party will hate me if I say no. And there is nothing for me to do in Slovakia in the future. My family is strongly against me running. They don’t us want to go through a dirty campaign.”45 The exchange ends undecided: “True. Anyway, I don’t expect a final decision today. It’s more about the atmosphere. Will tell you after.” (12:54:32 pm UTC)45
Epstein returned to it on October 10, 2018: “I thought much more about your hesitancy for president. - I believe that there is some difference between that and other roles that you have considered. But in todays environment. assuming it will be politics , I think the risks are the same. Being head of council of Europe . Just means there are many countries with the same goal rather than just the Slovak parties. . more later”. He followed with “I think you are kidding yourself to think you are safer outside rather than in.” and “In fact , the resources that can be used on the outside much more powerful than in. Sorry but I’ve now done my homework”. Lajčák asked, “So you suggest that I run?” Epstein answered that it was “a very personal decision”, that “You are under a microscope. The only question is how many eyes are looking and who’s eyes are they”, and that “IT used to come down to the effort the other side was willing to make. Money time. resources. etc. now that moat is dry”. Lajčák: “It’s complicated. Would be good to sit down and talk”. Epstein: “Agreed .”46
October 8, 2018
On October 8, 2018, writing from Moscow, Lajčák sent Epstein a picture at 05:46:00 pm UTC that the producing party has blacked out in its entirety; the extraction of that sheet emits nothing for it. More than four hours later, at 10:04:07 pm, Epstein wrote “Id prefer the view from inside”, and Lajčák answered “Girls are incredible!” Epstein: “Duh”; “Its their best export”; then, to Lajčák’s “After crude oil”, “No” and “Saudi has oil. Moscow has girls”. Lajčák answered at 10:05:44 pm, “Moscow has oil and girls”. Epstein replied to that, at 10:05:51 pm: “Walk over to the mirror and wave”. Only then, at 10:06:26 pm, did Lajčák write “I don’t have a girl next to me right now”, and Epstein came back at 10:07:46 with “As you are a diplomat. , that says. , she’ll be back in a minute. Or she’s across the room. Or its a woman and not a girl. or. she just left. Or there are two”, and “Im learning your language”. Lajčák: “No!!! I really don’t have a girl next to me right now. Too many eyes watching”.20
Later the same night, at 10:25:14 pm UTC, Epstein sent a photograph, and at 10:25:54 captioned it “Your campaign poster”. After a run of shorter messages Lajčák wrote, at 10:46:06 pm: “I wish to say “I feel sorry for you” but I can’t. Why don’t you invite me for these games?”, then “I would take the “MI” girl”. Epstein: “Who wouldn’t”; “You can have them both, I am not possessive”; “And their sisters.”; “The other girl has NE. So yours and. M_I_N_E”. Lajčák: “What I see is MIRO”; “You know that sharing is caring?” (10:49:47 pm UTC)21
What comes between that message and the next one quoted here is on a third sheet, and it supplies the referent of the sharpest line in the run. At 10:50:13 pm Epstein wrote: “Churkin gave me a MID. Men in diplomacy , with a picture of him and Lavrov. I wonder if Lavrov will give you one”, and at 10:50:36, “Its the third girl. . sorry. , I didn’t want to upset you its late there”. Lajčák answered: “Yes, it is. But my claim stays😎”, then “Let’s see what Lavrov will give me tomorrow”. Epstein: “Sounds like a pronouncement from the podium at the UN”; then “Yes your excellency”, a message the extraction places inside Lajčák’s block. Lajčák: “Sorry, professional deformation”. Epstein, at 10:52:43 pm: “Ask Lavrov for a churkin and Lavrov tee shirt.”, and at 10:53:07: “Its a photo of both wearing Men in black sunglasses”.26
At 10:53:31 pm Epstein wrote “You get the tee shirt. Then you get the girls”, a message the extraction also places inside Lajčák’s block; Lajčák answered at 10:54:28, “OK, will do”. Epstein at 10:54:43: “No kidding their sisters are both swimming in the pool. I m getting a headache”. Lajčák: “That’s not fair!” Epstein: “Though they’re all under 30. So. Probably too young for you”, and “Or should I say under 50 .” Lajčák: “Don’t be mean”; “You don’t know me in action”. Epstein: “Now im going to have nightmares”27
The photograph Epstein sent is recorded on the sheet as an attachment filename and is not reproduced in the release; none of the three sheets read for this section identifies anyone shown in it, and this page supplies no identification.212627
2019: the Council of Europe, Brussels, and the last plan
On January 14, 2019 Lajčák sent Epstein a Council of Europe media release listing the four candidatures received for Secretary General of that organisation, with the message “Did you see this?” Epstein replied, “didint see. you were not supposed to be on it , were you?” Lajčák: “No, I wasn’t. Bad timing - OSCE, presidential elections etc.”1 Epstein had raised that same office with him three months earlier, in the message about the presidency.46 His signature block on the January sheet prints his name with both diacritics and gives his title as Minister of Foreign and European Affairs; no contact value from that sheet is reproduced here.1
On January 25, 2019 Epstein’s assistant wrote to the minister’s office: “I understand Jeffrey and President Lajcak have been discussing dinner in Brussels on Jan 28th! However I have no details. Might you know anything!?” Šipošová replied on January 28: “As to my knowledge Mr. Lajcak and Mr. Epstein are communicating directly in regards to their possible meeting. Im afraid I therefore dont have any information to provide.”7 No document opened for this page records whether that dinner took place.22
On March 4, 2019 an e-mail whose sender field is barred, carrying Lajčák’s own signature block, forwarded to Epstein the ministry programme that Šipošová had sent to the minister the same morning: his official schedule for New York and Boston on 8–9 March 2019, including a meeting with the President of the seventy-third General Assembly, a meeting with the UN Deputy Secretary-General, a lecture and award ceremony at the Fletcher School at Tufts, and his flights.47 The two Sent fields on that sheet give 9:58 AM and 10:54 for the outer forward and the inner message, and both are printed without a zone, so no clock time is asserted here.47
The last plan in the record is a lunch in Paris. On June 10, 2019 Lesley Groff wrote to the minister’s office: “I understand from Jeffrey President Lajcak will have lunch with Jeffrey at his Paris apartment on Sunday June 16th. Would 2pm work for him?” Contact and residence values printed in the body of that message are not reproduced here.48 Šipošová replied the next morning: “Thanks a lot for this information. I was informed 2pm is fine for Minister Lajcak. We will inform you of the best number to reach him just in case as soon as we can.”8 On June 11, 2019 at 11:01:55 am UTC Epstein wrote on WhatsApp to a contact labelled “Jabor”: “Miro lajcak. Former president United Nations Sunday lunch”.49
Six days later, on June 17, 2019, Epstein wrote to Steve Bannon at 09:33:44 am UTC: “Nato would like to check choice of miro with dc. Should he contact Bolton or pompeo”, and again at 01:54:29 pm, “Bolton or pompeo for miro ?” Bannon asked “What’s his official title ?” Epstein answered: “Current . Slovakia foreign minister. Current chairman of OSCE . Former president United Nations”, then “And most important. Friend”. Bannon: “Yes yes yes”; “Pompeo and kiron skinner”; “Let me work it”13 Those sheets print the given name “miro” and not the surname; the identification rests on the titles Epstein supplies in the same exchange, which match the titles Lajčák’s own signature blocks carry.131 The exchange is also set out on Mike Pompeo. Nothing in any document opened for this page shows that an approach to Pompeo, Bolton or their staff was in fact made or received.22
The last message in that channel is a further message to the minister’s office about the arrangements for the lunch, dated June 12, 2019 at 14:20:59 +0000; its sender field is barred on the sheet cited here, and the contact and residence values printed in the messages quoted beneath it are not reproduced here.18 Of the returned documents whose first sheet carries an e-mail header date, that is the latest, and the date was fixed by reading those header dates rather than by a search.22 The June 17 exchange set out above is later still: it sits on a device export, which carries no header date and which none of the queries set out below returns.1322 No document opened for this page records whether the June 16 lunch took place.22
What the search returned
The corpus of released files was searched with the FTS5 index on 2026-09-10 in the following forms, and returned the following:
"Miroslav Lajcak": 228 pages in 197 documents"Miroslav Lajčák": 228 pages, the identical set of rows"Lajcak": 540 pages in 352 documents"Lajčák": 540 pages, the identical set of rowsLajcak*(prefix): 540 pages"Miroslav"alone: 409 pages in 307 documents- the money tokens listed under “September 4–8, 2018” above, run over every page of each of the 352 surname documents: 17 documents; the same tokens over the matching pages only: 11; over the 413 documents reached by every spelling, correct and damaged: 25
The accented and unaccented spellings are the same query here: the index folds the combining marks on č and á, and the two forms returned byte-identical row sets in both the surname and the full-name test. The surname alone finds 155 documents the full name misses, so the full-name count is not the record.22
Damaged spellings were then probed: "Lajtak" 25 pages, "Lajdak" 23, "Lajak" 15, "Miroslay" 15, "Laicak" 7, "Lajca" 6, "Miroslave" 5, "Layfik" 1. Together the eight reach 79 documents. Twelve of those the surname queries above do not reach at all, among them the 2014 guest list and the March 2018 e-mail to Sultan Bin Sulayem cited above, both of which print “Miroslav Lajčák” correctly at the image: the damage is in the extraction, which is what the index holds, so no correctly spelled surname query can reach them. Eleven of the twelve are nonetheless reached by "Miroslav" alone. The one document in this subject’s set that none of the six queries above reaches is the September 2017 e-mail carrying the Wikipedia link, where the extraction breaks the URL and renders the name “Miroslay”; it is reached by that spelling only. "Lajcek", "Lajkak", "Lajcik", "Lajfak" and "Lajcaks" returned nothing.2223
Of the 352 documents the surname search returns, the great majority are duplicate export copies. Classified by what the first sheet of each document is (a classification made from the extraction rather than from the page images, and therefore good to within a few documents in each class): 17 are sheets of the direct iMessage run; 20 are e-mails he sent; about 184 are e-mails addressed to his account or his office, overwhelmingly the assistant-to-assistant scheduling traffic and its re-exports; 55 are Epstein day sheets and schedules; 5 are copies of the contact card; and the remainder are third-party mentions, the largest single block of which is the November 29, 2017 dinner invitation to Deepak Chopra, which recurs under 26 production numbers.22

iMessage thread, Epstein and Lajčák, August 19, 2018. https://epstein-data.com/EFTA01619700 pp.3–4. Read at the image at 400 dpi. The date is taken from the sheet: p.3 carries a
2018/08/13divider above two messages and then a2018/08/19divider, and everything from “Are you having any fun” (12:12:58 pm) onward stands below the second one, as does all of pp.4 to 7, which carry no further divider. The extraction of p.3 renders the two dividers as “2018108/ 13” and “2018108r 9” and groups them away from the messages they govern, which is how the exchange can be read as six days earlier than it is. A picture attachment sent by Lajčák on p.4 carries a bar drawn over part of the image by the producing party; the extraction emits nothing for it, and no text on the sheet says where it was taken. ↩ ↩2 ↩3 -

The iMessage and WhatsApp threads cited here are device extractions rendered as page images. Sent and received messages are distinguished by column and colour on the page image, and every quotation and attribution on this page was taken from the page image and not from the text layer, at 400 dpi except where a footnote states a different resolution, with the single exception noted at
[^vegas2]. Clock times from these threads are UTC: the first sheet of each of the thirteen device exports cited here printsPlatform: … Timezone: UTC+0000in its header, and each of those thirteen headers was read at the image at 400 dpi. Clock times from e-mail are given only where the sheet carries a zone, and the sentence says so where it does not. The text layer of this run misplaces messages between participants: two of Epstein’s messages appear inside Lajčák’s block on the sheet cited at[^games2]and a third on the sheet cited at[^games15]; it emits nothing for the two barred picture attachments cited at[^pres1]and[^moscow]; and on the sheets cited at[^finances2]and[^pres1]it moves the date dividers away from the messages they govern. Apart from Epstein’s ownjeevacationaccount name, which appears in the infobox without its domain and prints in the clear on hundreds of sheets in the release, no telephone number, e-mail address, contact identifier, access credential or residential address from any sheet cited here is reproduced on this page. ↩ -
