Casey Wasserman (born June 28, 1974) is an American sports and entertainment executive, founder and chief executive of the talent and marketing agency Wasserman, and chair of the organising committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games.1 A flight chart the plaintiff filed as a litigation exhibit in Giuffre v. Maxwell, a tabulation of Epstein’s flight logs and not the logs themselves, records him as a passenger on Jeffrey Epstein’s Boeing 727 during a September 2002 trip to Africa that he later described as a humanitarian trip with a Clinton Foundation delegation.24 Justice Department releases in January 2026 included a personal email correspondence between Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell in March and April 2003.53 Wasserman said in February 2026 that he deeply regretted the correspondence and had never had a personal or business relationship with Epstein.4

Background

Wasserman is the grandson of Lew Wasserman, who ran MCA Inc. and Universal Studios and died in 2002.1 He bought the Arena Football League’s Los Angeles Avengers in 1998 and in the same year founded Wasserman Media Group, a sports marketing and talent management firm renamed Wasserman in 2016.1 He took office as chair of the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games on July 31, 2017.1 In an April 2003 email his own signature block gave his title as chief executive of Wasserman Media Group, LLC, at an address in Beverly Hills.6

The September 2002 Africa flights

On September 10, 2002 David Slade, deputy director of scheduling and advance in Bill Clinton’s post-presidential office, emailed Ghislaine Maxwell under the subject “Africa Trip Information,” copying Doug Band.7 The message set out what Slade called “our proposed plane manifest (excluding your package) for the Africa trip,” listing Wasserman on every African leg alongside Clinton, Band, Rodney Slater and Kevin Spacey; the list is a proposal made eleven days before departure, not a record of who flew.”7

A chart of Maxwell’s flights, filed by the plaintiff in Giuffre v. Maxwell, No. 1:15-cv-07433-LAP (S.D.N.Y.), as an exhibit to her counsel’s declaration in support of a motion to compel, on May 11, 2016, records the trip as flown on Epstein’s Boeing 727, tail number N908JE.2 The chart is the plaintiff’s own tabulation of the underlying flight logs, not the logs themselves, headed by a Bates column pointing back to them; the rows recording this trip carry the compiler’s own uncertainty marker for a separate, unnamed entry, while the entries naming Wasserman carry none.2 The chart lists Wasserman as a passenger on seven consecutive legs: New York to Santa Maria in the Azores on September 21, 2002; Santa Maria to Accra on September 22; Accra to Abuja on September 23; Abuja to Kigali on September 24; Kigali to Maputo on September 25; Maputo to Cape Town on September 26; and Cape Town to Accra on September 29.2 The same rows name Epstein, Maxwell, Clinton, Doug Band, Spacey, Chris Tucker, Slater and Ron Burkle.2 The itinerary as flown differs from the September 10 proposal, which had included stops at Kumasi and a Cape Town to Johannesburg leg that the chart does not record.72

An FBI FD-302 recording a telephone interview of July 22, 2019, in which the interviewee’s name is redacted, gives a witness account of the same trip and names Wasserman among those aboard Epstein’s aircraft in September 2002 with Clinton, Spacey, Tucker, Burkle, Slater and Maxwell.8

Vicky Ward reported the trip in Vanity Fair in March 2003, writing that Epstein “recently flew President Clinton, actors Chris Tucker and Kevin Spacey, supermarket magnate Ron Burkle, Lew Wasserman’s grandson, Casey Wasserman, and a few others, on a mission to explore the problems of AIDS and economic development in Africa.”9

Correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell, 2003

The Justice Department releases include a run of emails between Wasserman and Maxwell running from mid-March to mid-April 2003.1011 The exchange is between the two of them and is personal and flirtatious in tone.1012 On March 16, 2003 Maxwell wrote that she would be returning to New York “wearing a tight leather flying suit,” and Wasserman replied that he was “here…very quiet without you.”10

On April 1, 2003 Wasserman wrote to Maxwell: “Where are you, I miss you. I will be in nyc for 4 days starting april 22…can we book that massage now?”3 In replies on April 2 and April 3 the two discussed the massage in explicitly sexual terms, referring only to each other.1314 The documents do not identify any other person in connection with the request, and what was meant by it is not established by them.313 Wasserman said in February 2026 that he deeply regretted his correspondence with Maxwell, that it took place “long before her horrific crimes came to light,” and that he was “terribly sorry for having any association with either of them.”4

On April 6, 2003 Maxwell wrote that “JE has just asked me to find a house to rent for 2 weeks (I am sure I will have to take it for longer) in Malibu in June” and asked Wasserman for a real estate referral, which he supplied the same day.15

On April 9, 2003 Wasserman sent Maxwell a “GoodContacts” contact-details update request.6 On April 12, 2003 Maxwell asked whether she could fly back to New York with him from Los Angeles on Tuesday April 22; he agreed, said “probably late afternoon, like 4ish,” and she replied.11

Other records

An October 2002 FedEx invoice billed to Epstein records a package sent on October 7, 2002 by Ghislaine Maxwell, from Epstein’s 457 Madison Avenue office in New York, to Wasserman in Beverly Hills, delivered the following day.16

An alphabetical contact list produced by the Justice Department, with personal contact information redacted, carries an entry under Wasserman’s name.17

At Ghislaine Maxwell’s criminal trial in the Southern District of New York, on December 9, 2021, defence counsel Christian Everdell cross-examined a FedEx records custodian on one of these invoices, establishing that “the recipient there is one named Casey Wasserman” and that “the sender there is listed as Ghislaine Maxwell.”18

Response and aftermath, 2026

Wasserman issued a statement on February 1, 2026: “I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell which took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light. I never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. As is well documented, I went on a humanitarian trip as part of a delegation with the Clinton Foundation in 2002 on the Epstein plane. I am terribly sorry for having any association with either of them.”4

NBC News reported on February 14, 2026 that Wasserman had told staff he would sell his agency, writing that his appearance in the released files had “become a distraction” and that he was “deeply sorry that my past personal mistakes have caused you so much discomfort.”5 CBS News reported the following day that his memo described his association with Epstein and Maxwell as having “consisted of one humanitarian trip to Africa and a handful of emails that I deeply regret sending,” and that Mike Watts would take day-to-day control of the business.19 NBC News reported that the LA28 board said Wasserman “should continue to lead LA28 and deliver a safe and successful Games,” having found that his relationship with Epstein and Maxwell “did not go beyond what has already been publicly documented,” and that the agency lost the representation of Chappell Roan and Abby Wambach that week.5

ABC7 Los Angeles reported on June 6, 2026 that Wasserman told a press conference he had not considered stepping down, despite calls for his resignation that included one from Mayor Karen Bass, and that he had not been accused of wrongdoing in relation to Epstein or Maxwell.20
