Barbro Christina Ehnbom (born August 7, 1945) is a Swedish-American business executive who founded the Female Economist of the Year scholarship and the women’s network Barbro’s Best and Brightest at the Stockholm School of Economics, and the Swedish-American Life Science Summit.1 Documents released by the Department of Justice record contact between Ehnbom and Jeffrey Epstein from April 2005 to March 2019.34 They include her requests that he fund a scholarship account held in her name at the Stockholm School of Economics, checks written on that instruction by two Epstein foundations, and messages in which she offered to introduce women from her network to him.567 The Stockholm School of Economics said in December 2025 that it had separated the fund from the school in 2015 and ended its collaboration with Ehnbom.8 Ehnbom told Göteborgs-Posten and SVT on April 2, 2026 that she had been close to Epstein but knew of no one she introduced who had been harmed.910
Background
Ehnbom took a business degree at the Stockholm School of Economics in 1967, did doctoral study at Columbia University, and worked in the pharmaceutical industry and on Wall Street.1 In 2001 she established the Female Economist of the Year scholarship for students at the Stockholm School of Economics and the networking organisation Barbro’s Best and Brightest, abbreviated “BBB” throughout her correspondence; in 2003 she founded the Swedish-American Life Science Summit, abbreviated “SALSS.”111 She signed her emails to Epstein “Chairman, Swedish-American Life Science Summit,” and used the closings “BE,” “kram” and “puss o kram.”212
The summit was a recurring Stockholm conference funded by corporate sponsors.13 A message to Epstein on May 13, 2011, sent with the sender field redacted and signed “BE,” described the summit’s finances: “the cash budget for SALSS is around $200,000, contributed by ca 10 Gold Sponsors..a few of which also pay for the various venues we use for the 2½ day summit…I just lost two long term sponsering companies this week.”13 Epstein replied, “difficult to follw are you 25k or 50 k short or more”; the reply, also sender-redacted, read “25k..”13
Contact with Epstein, 2005–2019
In the quotations below, [name] replaces the name of a private individual and [redacted] marks text blacked out on the page image.
A message log kept by Epstein’s office for April 5, 2005 lists a 10:26 a.m. message from “Barbro” saying she was going to Sweden on the 18th, asking to meet him before then, and raising the possibility that he “hold a BBB dinner on the 25th of May.”3 In July 2009 a member of Ehnbom’s network wrote to Epstein to thank him “for your continouos support to the Female Economist of the Year scholarship, and to Barbro’s Best and Brightest,” and Epstein replied, “thanks„ i look forward to attending the next award ceremony.”11
Messages dated between 2011 and 2019 show Ehnbom writing to Epstein’s personal address, [email protected], and to his assistant Lesley Groff, who scheduled her appointments.214 Epstein’s daily schedules list appointments on three dates: “2:00 Appt w/Barbro and Andrew Hessel” on February 14, 2012; “2:15 Appt w/Barbro” on October 8, 2012, a schedule that on the same day separately notes Woody Allen “is confirmed to come ring your bell at the house at 2:45”; and “5:30pm Barbro plus around 8 BBB’s” on September 23, 2014, under a week headed “NY.” The entries record appointments, not that they occurred, and none of the three states a location for Ehnbom’s entry.151617
Groff continued to arrange appointments for her over several years.1418 On April 21, 2014 Groff offered a Thursday appointment and Ehnbom replied, “Think I could do…does he want me to bring congress woman around to meet him?”; the meeting was fixed for 4:30 p.m.14 On April 20, 2015 Ehnbom wrote that she had “JUST CAME BACK LATE LAST NIGHT AFTER 2 INTENSE WEEKS IN SWEDEN” and asked Groff to arrange a meeting; Groff answered, “he is super busy and says he will call you!”18 On October 2, 2017 Epstein wrote, “you can tell barbro to meniton to [name] the bbb she will like it”; Groff relayed the same message to Ehnbom minutes later.19
On July 4, 2018 Ehnbom asked whether Epstein would be in New York before July 12; he replied, “unlikely, how are you.”20 Later the same day she wrote, “Problems..! Want to ask your advice?” and he asked for a number to call.20 On February 26, 2019 a message to Epstein, sender field redacted, reported that “Barbro is in NY and called to say hello…she hopes you are doing ok…she says to give her a call if you can.”21 On March 18, 2019 Ehnbom wrote to Epstein, “Latest BBB! How are you Jeffrey?? Best, BE in NYC”; he replied, “nice, how are you. . where is s=e/?” (the ”=” in “s=e/?” is a quoted-printable artefact carried onto the face of the sheet, where a single character has been replaced by an equals sign, and it is quoted here unrepaired).4
The fund at the Stockholm School of Economics
Records dated from March 2006 through December 2014 document payments to the Stockholm School of Economics carrying the memo line “Barbro’s Fund,” drawn on two foundations Epstein controlled.56 A 2006 disbursement register of the C.O.U.Q. Foundation records check 2350, dated March 7, 2006, to “Stockholm School of Economics,” annotated “Barbro’s Fund,” for $25,000.5 On February 14, 2011 Epstein asked his correspondent “what do you want for valentine day?” and received the reply “A CHECK FOR BBB i.e. BARBRO’S FUND…??!”; he forwarded it to Richard Kahn with the word “25k,” and Kahn answered, “Confirming 25k from Enhanced. Fyi — COUQ has 50,245 cash balance.”22
On May 14, 2011 a message to Epstein, sent with the sender field redacted, described a woman the writer had recently met and added that she might not be the person they were looking for.23 Epstein replied, “she has been in my house. I will give you the 25k that you need,” and the reply, itself sender-redacted, read “JEFFREY EPSTEIN - YOU ARE THE BEST - YOU MADE NOT ONLY MY DAY BUT MY TRIP! TACK!!BE.”23 The same thread carries Epstein’s instruction “25k from enhanced ed” and Kahn’s reply two days later “confirming that donation is to Stockholm School of Economics for 25k.”23 When Ehnbom asked that the check be made out to the summit instead, Kahn wrote, “I just reviewed our records and we have never sent money to Swedish American Life Science. Money was only sent to Stockholm School of Economics”; Epstein added, “Must be 501.”24
In October 2011 the office twice received requests for further support, in each case sent with the sender field redacted. A message on October 12, signed “BE,” said that “Barbro’s Fund at Stockholm School of Economics evidently has a negative balance right now-if it is possible for me to hand carry yet another check over there would be fantastic!” and called Epstein “our BBBAngel.”25 On October 28, after members of the network had met him, a message signed “kram be” read: “YOU ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO SO MANY OF THE BBBs…AND THE ONE SOURCE THAT KEEPS US GOING!! I HOPE I CAN COUNT ON YOUR SUPPORT TO BARBRO’S FUND a.s.a.p…right now we have a negative balance at the school.”26
A message to Epstein on September 26, 2013, sender field redacted and signed “BE,” read, “I AM HOPING YOU STILL WANT TO KEEP SUPPORTING US AND WRITE YET ANOTHER CHECK TO STOCKHOLM SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS IN THE SUM OF $1MM AND MARK IT ‘BARBRO’S FUND’ :-)”.27 On December 11, 2014, after she asked “I wonder if it is possible you keep us going one more time by financing us,” Epstein wrote “30k from foundation”; Kahn instructed the office to “process 30,000 from Enhanced to Stockholm School of Economics (same as in the past). Memo section should have Barbro’s fund.”6 The resulting check, number 2599, is in the record: drawn on Enhanced Education at 6100 Red Hook Qtrs, Suite B3, St Thomas, dated 12/11/2014, for $30,000.00, payable to “Stockholm School Of Economics,” memo “Barbro’s Fund,” and signed by Darren Indyke.6

The Stockholm School of Economics published statements on December 11, 2025 and February 4, 2026.833 It said that Reuters informed it in 2015 that the school had been named as a recipient of donations from Epstein; that an internal review identified two Epstein-linked foundations, Enhanced Education and the C.O.U.Q. Foundation, which “had donated to the Barbro Ehnbom Fund over several years”; and that the school administered the fund but described it as a separate operation controlled by Ehnbom, an account she has not addressed in her public statements.833 It stated that an administrative separation of the fund from the school was carried out in 2015, that it ended its collaboration with Ehnbom and took over the Female Economist of the Year scholarship, which has since been discontinued, and that “our internal controls regarding donors had been insufficient.”833
Removal from the philanthropy website
On January 21, 2015 Ehnbom sent Groff the recipients page of jeffreyepstein.org, and on January 22 the recipients page of jeffreyepsteineducation.com, asking in Swedish that this one be removed too.34 Groff replied, “I just looked and Stockholm School of Economics is still there…I will reiterate that you wish to have it removed and it is very important,” and later, “Barbro…Jeffrey promises the Stockholm School of Economics will be off the website today.”34 That afternoon the foundation’s address wrote to her: “Dear Ms. Ehnbom, Please be advised that the Stockholm School of Economics as a recipient has been removed from the foundation’s website,” signed “Jeffre[y] E[p]stein VI Foundation”; Groff reported that she was “on the phone with Barbro now…she is going to have her office check and make sure the name is gone everywhere.”35 The Stockholm School of Economics has said that Reuters approached it about Epstein donations in 2015.8
Introductions
In August 2012 Ehnbom sent Epstein the programme and attendee list for that year’s summit.7 Epstein replied on August 20, “who is your wife choice this year?”7 She answered the same day by putting forward a woman from her network, and wrote the next morning, “She is the one!”736 Days later she proposed the same person again, and Epstein answered that he would like to meet.37 An earlier exchange used the same term: in September 2011 Epstein wrote to her, “I am back in ny, where are you„ where is my wife, asssistant. , ?”2
In December 2012 Ehnbom asked whether a woman from her network could come and see Epstein, and in the same email asked that “such a check should be made out to Stockholm School of Economics. and in memo should say Barbro’ s Fund.”38 Epstein replied, “yes , tomorw good.”38 The same morning Groff told Epstein that the woman had called to set up an appointment “per Barbro,” and Epstein wrote, “have rich have a 10k check from either epstein or enhanced”; the office then asked whether the check should be made out to the school “or Barbro Enhbom,” and Epstein answered “yes.”30
In March 2013 Ehnbom wrote to Epstein about a woman who could “BE YOUR NEXT ASSISTANT AFTER [name],” describing her as a Swedish psychology student.39 The next day Epstein wrote to the woman: “barbro suggested i contact you re a job in ny. could you please send me your resume.”40 She replied, and he asked whether she was “organized, computer literate.”41
In August 2013 Groff asked Ehnbom, “is there someone you wanted JE to meet?” and she answered yes, naming two women.42
In June 2014 Ehnbom proposed that Epstein meet a woman and asked, “WHAT TIME TMRW?”43
Ehnbom told Göteborgs-Posten on April 2, 2026 that she had introduced Swedish women to Epstein to help their careers, and that she knew of no one she had brought to him who had been harmed.9
Scientific and social contacts
In October 2012 Ehnbom emailed Epstein’s office with the subject line “name of nobel prize friend of JE at Columbia?”44 In September 2016 she asked whether Epstein knew “Roman Abramovich,” said she was recovering from a medical procedure, and wrote that she hoped they could “meet up soon.”45
Public statements
Ehnbom declined to comment when SVT approached her in December 2025.46 She spoke to Göteborgs-Posten and to SVT on April 2, 2026.910 She said she was shocked by what had emerged and knew of no one she had brought to Epstein who had been harmed; that contacts had continued after his 2008 conviction because in New York the case was taken to be politically motivated; and that she and others had not grasped what he had been convicted of.9 Of the relationship she said, “Bara för att jag har varit nära ett monster innebär det inte att jag är ett monster” (“Just because I have been close to a monster does not mean that I am a monster”).9 She told SVT that had she believed it for a second, the introductions would never have happened.10
