Good to see George too. =e's smart and has been in this field longer than me. I need to get =ore advice from him about handling my students and post docs I =hink. Good point about =ontrol. I think one thing is for us to set up = not profit to which I can eject myself and the good people if I decide =o bail or if I get kicked out. I think it =hould/could be designed like the Broad. Eric =ander is a friend and I'm talking to him about how he's structured =he Broad. It is a non-profit with an affiliation with Harvard and MIT. =either of them really love the Broad, but it is able to raise funds =ndependently, have its own building and bring in faculty and students =rom both Harvard and MIT. Lander is the only faculty member on the both =IT hand Harvard faculty committees as a full =ember. The Broad has an independent board that =overns it and isn't really accountable operationally to Harvard or =IT. Having said that, Eric is very different =han me, he's an accomplished scientist and teaches Biology 101 at =IT, etc. My "thing" will probably more in =he translational Lab x Anti Disciplinary Space area where a non-profit =akes sense. We can put non-tenture track but interesting people and =rojects there and allow it to connect to the Media Lab so that both =ntities benefit. I think we can figure out a =ay to use the Media Lab branding, which I think will be =mportant... Would love to discuss this =ore. - =oi On Oct 14, 2014, at 5:49 AM, =effrey E. <[email protected]> =rote: great fun, 1. when i had been =nvolved with summers and alston we did a lot of thinking on space. how =t affects collaberation etc. confernce roms, cafeterioas. =lah blah, and then he was gone , had i built the =uilidng i wanted i would be dealing with drew faust and fillign it with =oets.. have to treadcarefully as if you are not there im =screwe
