Please read it carefully Jeffrey LMK Dear Lindy: I am writing out of professional courtesy, and out of a sense of concern regarding the what is effectively the erasure of the Origins Project, and with it all the resources that scores of scientists had contributed to developing over the years for the use of teachers, students, and the general public that occurred when Origins transitioned into your Interplanetary Initiative. I have read the ASUNow announcement, and while I certainly understand and applaud your desire to utilize and promote the skill set developed by Origins staff to help promote your Interplanetary Initiative in new ways, that does not require erasing all evidence of the Origins project, its contributions, and its mission. As it has been handled, the process has been unfair to Origins participants, donors, and members of the general public, and goes against what should be the University's commitment to knowledge and education. I respectfully request that: (a) The Origins web site, with all its resources and links, be restored for the benefit of those individuals who use the site, and in honor of all the people who contributed time and scholarship to the program. (b) Those who have donated to Origins be informed that their funds are now being used to support the Interplanetary Initiative and that they be given the option of moving those funds to other programs that may better reflect their interests. (c) Many people on the Origins emailing list have been writing to me out of confusion, as they are now receiving Interplanetary Initiative emails.
