From: Jeffrey Epstein <[email protected]> To: mare hauser Subject: Re: reboot on funding Date: Thu, 22 Apr 2010 11:07:36 +0000 even if its a conference call „ it might be fruitful On Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 6:56 AM, matt hauser < dear jeffrey > wrote: hope all is well. i wanted to reboot our conversation on possible finding. i was speaking with my close friend and colleague mike gazzaniga, presently a UCSB. Gazzaniga, as you may know, is one of the pioneers in cognitive neuroscience, one of its founding people. He was a student of the nobel prize winner roger speny, having done extraordinary work on split brain patients. over the last ten or so years, he has been engaged in projects linking neuroscience and the law, and was on the President's Council for Bioethics. we were chatting about how the discoveries that are being made in the neurosciences today, including many from both of our labs, are ripe to address the mechanisms underlying criminal behavior. This was triggered in part by our discussion of the sex abuse cases of late in the church, the mass genocides that are ongoing in the congo, and that have plagued us for as centuries. This would be a big undertaking, but with potentially massive implications. Our prisons are exploding with criminals. This can't be sustained. We need ways to not only avoid the violence and harms, but to treat those who have committed such crimes. You had mentioned having a session. I am thinking Gazzaniga, me and Damasio. Coordination is always a challenge, but wanted to float this by you. What do you think? best marc Marc Hauser, Harvard College Professor Departments of Psychology and Human Evolutionary Biology Harvard University 33 Kirkland St Cambrid e MA, 02138 : www.wj r. rarvar .e u —mnkylab For Appointment: I. check my calendar at: when asked for lo in info: login: pass EFTA00732894
