To: From: alan Sent: Thur 5/15/2003 9:45:15 PM Ms. Maxwell, I left you and Jeffrey some unusual fruit on your kitchen counter. I labeled each fruit with your chef. They are not ripe now, however, in about 2-3 days they should soften up and be ready for eating. Two of the fruit are football-shaped with a tan, coarse outside. They are called Mameys. We are growing them in the kitchen garden. You can eat them when they soften. You can cut them in half and eat them plain with a spoon, like a melon, or mix a little cool whip or whip cream with the meat. It is native to Cuba and "shakes" are a very popular way to consume them there or in Miami. The second one is smaller and with smooth tan outside. It is a Sapodilla. Wait till it softens and then eat with a spoon. It is tangy or almost spicy. The third one is round and green. It is called a chocolate pudding fruit because the meat inside looks just like chocolate pudding. I like to mix it with some whip cream to cut the sweetness of the chocolate flavor. Some use the fresh fruit as a substitute to bananas when making banana bread. It is great that way too. At any rate, I hope you get the chance to try them all. There are 2 21- and 3 1r terra cotta containers unused on the property. I suggest we can use these, painted blue, in the second floor terrace area (master bedroom) and the pool patio area. I could install some flowering Crown of Thoms (there is a tall specimen near the MBR doors, facing west- (white, pink or red), unusual Aloes (big), Agaves(big), palms, or Bromeliads ( some flower spikes last about 3-5 months. depending on what specie). I would like to use some unusual specimens as well as hardy plants like Aloes, Bromeliads, Crowns, Agaves or Palms in these containers. Soft growing flowering plants really don't do well as a container garden. IF you need photos, I can email you some soon of those species that might interest you. I don't know if I ever informed you of my web site- It displa
