If I fail to get the endorsements because the academic Al folks at name-brand universities just don't like my ideas, then so be it ... I can't really help it if these people have terrible intellectual judgment ;-) But I don't want to fail because of a stupid reason like not presenting my ideas in the right way, so I want to be really sure the proposal represents the ideas in a way that's both accurate and "culturally correct".... Itamar has been really helpful in this regard as he's written a bunch of (successful) NSF grants ... whereas my government-funding successes have been most in bioinformatics, which is a little different...
