The first candle is lit this Sunday night December 6th at nightfall or after dark. We continue lighting the candles each night for eight nights. The last night we light the candles is Sunday night December 13th . On Friday December 11, one must light the candles only before sunset and not afterwards. On Saturday December 12th, one must only light the candles at least one hour after sunset and not before. Please make the extra effort and the light the Chanukah candles this year. You do not have to have an actual Menorah to fulfill this Mitzvah(requirement). You can use any candle or any type of oil you have in the house and still fulfill the Mitzvah of lighting Chanukah lights . If you do not have a Menorah or Chanukah candles and cannot buy a menorah or Chanukah candles locally, please email me and we will help you locate a menorah and candles in your area or send you some. Each and every Jew should light his or her own Menorah with real candles or oil. Children are encouraged to light as well. The Blessings Before lighting the Chanukah candles, we thank G-d for giving us this special mitzvah, and for the incredible Chanukah miracles: Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-he-nu Me-lech ha-olam a-sher ki-de-sha-nu be-mitz-vo-tav ve-tzi-va-nu le-had-lik ner Chanukah.
