Individual asset class return forecasts were developed and tested for reasonableness based upon historical returns. The expected long-term rate of return is the weighted average of the target asset allocation of each asset class. The pension plan assets are held in a pension trust and are managed by independent investment advisors with the objective of maximizing returns with a prudent level of risk. The target market value of equity securities is 50% of the plan assets. If the equity percentage exceeds 60% or drops below 40%, the asset allocation will be adjusted to the target.
