One major change to the existing registration requirements is that the Act establishes a tier system in which all sex offenders will be placed into a specific tier depending on the sex offense committed. The tier will determine the length of the registration period and how often the sex offender is required to appear to renew his or her registration. Another major change is that all sex offenders will be required to provide information/documentation that was not previously required. By this letter, you are hereby advised that, in accordance with the new requirements of the Virgin Islands Sex Offender Registration and Community Protection Act, you have been placed within tier one 01 Therefore, unless you are homeless you are required to appear in person at the Virgin Islands Department of Justice to renew your registration once a year. If you are homeless, you are required to appear once every week. Additionally, you are required to register as a sex offender for a period of 15 years. Be advised that you are required to immediately appear at the Virgin Islands Department of Justice to provide the additional information referred to above.
