This request was first submitted by email to Ms. Shani Pinney, the Sex Offender Registration Coordinator, who informed me that I should seek authorization from the Attorney General by means of a formal letter detailing the specific request and the reasons therefor. By email dated January 23, 2013, I sought the advice of Ms. Pinney as to whether it would be acceptable for Mr. Jeffrey Epstein, whose registration anniversary is March 5, to renew his registration prior to March 5, 2013 during the first two weeks in February 2013. In that email and a subsequent telephone conversation with Ms. Pinney on that same date, I explained that as a result of a change in Mr. Epstein's travel plans necessitated by the weather, Mr. Epstein had to cancel his trip to Paris, France and reschedule the trip for the beginning of March 2013. Moreover, as a result of this rescheduling and Mr. Epstein's other business and professional commitments, Mr. Epstein is currently scheduled to be out of the United States for the entire month of March 2013, although this could be subject to change as meeting dates and additional plans are finalized.
