We e delighted by your interest and the faculty members of our College of Science & Mathematics are encouraged by your desire to support their efforts to provide quality education for our students. As per your very generous request, we have outlined a the faculty's viWon for dramatically transforming STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education throughout the USVI and creating a community of learners who are excited about the sciences on the elementary, middle, and ultimately, university levels. This contribution has the potential to transform the quality of life in the Virgin Islands, and serve as a model for how an investment in science and math in an underdeveloped communit a transform the economy and social conditions of the region. UVI is seeking to accom the following: Elementary School In grades K-6, UVI will focus on strengthening teacher skills and enriching curriculum and capitalizing upon the natural curiosity inherent in young children. To accomplish this, UVI will: Develop ongoing science and math professional development for teachers and provide in class support from UV1 undergraduates and graduate students, and, Assist with developing science-focused exploration activities to get students interested in the sciences; This phase will impact approximately 800 students and 66 teachers, per year starting in year one.
