Life would be easier if I stay here, but if Mike doesn't come through with the "Learning Lab" idea, I'll be stuck in a rut. Let's to talk over the weekend. Koss! Hi JEE... wrote: So...Stanford...3ust back. I followed your advice. I don't think either the Dean or the Provost likes me all that much — especially after I told both of them what I thought of their wanting to force me out at age 72 (yes, that's what they wanted). That's ended up being an issue; I don't care about tenure, but I don't want to be thrown out on the street when I still have plenty of gas in my tank (and would have no means to make the money necessary to meet my mortgage!). The other bit was that I asked for funds to "kick start" the center by employing a major gifts person and somebody like Jennifer to organize events ("product" for the Valley People, so they'll want to subscribe to my program for the low, low initial sum of SOK/yr). They didn't like that (it's OK to use Stanford facilities, but not OK to ask for more cash -- 10M was enough). So, we'll see. Meanwhile, I've asked Mike Smith to be able to transform the Division of Continuing Education into an experimental laboratory, focusing on web-based learning. We'll see what he decides. I think I played this as well as I could have, and now need to wait. I hope you are well! JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ_ LI Stephen M.
