From: Ben Goertzel To: Jeffrey Epstein <[email protected]> Subject: Building Better Minds: first draft finally complete!! Date: Fri, 22 Oct 2010 00:31:28 +0000 Hi Jeffrey, I finally finished a complete first-draft version of my two-volume book on how to create a thinking machine, "Building Better Minds". Both volumes are here in this scary 900-page PDF file: http://goertzel.org/BBM_drattOct22_2010.pdf It still needs work on formatting references, fixing sizes of figures, some editing and some other random stuff, but the content is now all there... Of course, I don't expect you'll have time to read the thing just now, but maybe some portions will be of particular interest ;) Most of the material has been available before in various papers or wiki pages, but some is new, and it's not been tied together coherently before... If you scan the Table of Contents for Volume I and Volume II (the latter is on page 393 of the PDF) you'll get an idea of the scope of my AGI design and what sorts of approaches I'm using... Only around 35% of this grand design is now implemented though. After our Hong Kong project it will be up to maybe 50-55% if things go well... we're getting there ;-) .... Thanks so much for your help with that! Ah, as I recall you read a draft book of mine in 2001, which had a similar philosophy to this one, but was vastly less detailed and comprehensive. Comparing that draft [which I chose not to publish, as I didn't like it enough] with this one, I can see that I've made a lot of conceptual and theoretical and prototyping progress over the last decade! .... After some more editing this will go to either Springer or World Scientific.... Thx much for your funding which played a key role in helping this to get done ;) Now if I get hit by a bus or shot by an irate ex-wife, others are more likely to be able to complete building my AGI for me ;p ;) -- ben Ben Goertzel, PhD CEO, Novamente LLC and Biomind LLC CTO, Genescient Corp Adju
