It is the direct fault of the Zoning officer who told us we could erect it on the front patio. Johns only mistake is he did not confirm it with an email. Why would he they are all over town. He asked if we needed a permit, and we did not. I say throw John under the bus but it's the town that screwed up. Remember pergola is never mentioned in the ordinance. An accessory building which this is not has to be 150 off the road. This is not an accessory structure because it doesn't have a roof. We do need good pictures of the new house and pictures of other pergolas and trellises. It is a set back issue but the roof determines if it is an accessory structure. Remember this is erected on an approved patio that is connected to the house via footings. So what if you were to put furniture out there? How about flower pots or an American flag stand.
