Also remember, all staff are trained as correctional workers first, they receive the same basic training and the same annual training. They all respond to emergencies and are primarily responsible for the care and custody of inmates. They all receive the same law enforcement benefits. And, in Mr. Thomas' case, he volunteered to work that OT post. Also yesterday when we talked about CO pay and I compared it to USMS, etc, the primary difference is BOP staff do not get LEAP pay, and they do not carry weapons.
